New Girl Ficlet: "Countdown" (PG-13; post-3x03; Cece)

This is a little ficlet I had to write after waking up this morning and wondering what the events of 3x03 ("Double Date") meant for Cece.

I don't like that Jess is a different person now, totally Nick-centric. I do like how they are handling the romance, to some extent, but it almost seems like it's gone so far that for some relationships, they can't go back. How will Cece be integrated, now? It would be weird for her and Schmidt to be in the same space; I don't even want them to be, personally.

This ficlet really brings it all home. Cece and Elizabeth had so much more to lose, it really makes Schmidt a full-on complete asshole of nearly unbearable proportions and that's no fun. No fun at all!

We are CLEARLY on the same page here, because your first paragraph is everything I wanted to say in this ficlet. I adore Nick and Jess together and their capacity for joy in each other, but I do think the friendships between Cece and Jess and Schmidt and Nick are getting the shaft.

In a comment over at AO3, someone let me know that there was actually a scene (that got cut for time) of Jess running after Cece, during which Cece yelled at Jess for moving into the loft and bringing these guys into their lives. While I don't love the idea of that scene, it still would have been better than nothing, because if you take the episode as it stands, Jess looks like a complete asshole (though not as bad as Schmidt). Argh. I want the friendships to stay strong even while romance is blooming, show!
