hats are remarkably easy to do. You just need to be able to knit in the round and manage decreases. BOTH easier than they sound.

How hard is it to make the i-cord for the chain links? I think that's what's stopped me from trying handbags too...that and time away from the computer :)

i-cord is really easy once you get your hand in (I tried to make something i-cord for my first ever project and it backfired disastrously). The trick is really not to stitch to tightly and keep pulling the cord down to close the stitch on the back. then it's just rows of three stitches.
