All of these are awesome, but with the exception of Aliana (who I do not know) and Emma (who, being a Jane Austen character, I do not know either, for lack of having read the source material), I've never had to argue for their awesomeness; for most of the people I know who know these people, their awesomeness is self-explanatory.

It's interesting that this is so, to me, because I wanna know who's bitchin' about these characters, as that ain't right >:E

(Aliana is amazing! She's raped at the beginning of the book, and is strong from it - not kickass stupid strong, 'cause not that sort of book, but she gets over it and forges a life for herself and her brother and is awesome.)

Ehhhh, most of the people doing the meme are just doing it from the standpoint of "here's some awesome women, natch", which I approve of, so I don't really have an issue with it. I just remember sitting down and having about twenty names of female characters I'd recently - within the past month - had to restrain myself from leaping across the internet with intent to kill for the sake of proving said characters' awesome just pop into my head, so when I answered the originating meme post I had to narrow it down some.

. . . this is probably because I'm in so many anime fandoms, tbh. Nobody (ouch, sweeping generalization alert!) likes girls in anime fandoms, or at least it sometimes feels like every month there's a new statement by SOMEONE which I see that causes me to hiss and want to bite the internet to death. Or, simply, "how can you like character X, she's so useless" etc. etc. CAN I EAT YOUR NOSE, ARGH >:E
