And how exactly does that help her? Do you think that just because she's a child, that she won't realise something wrong? That the danger will just go away if she doesn't know it's there?

You cannot expect her to trust you when you do not trust her with details that she needs to know. You cannot expect her to be able to defend herself against something she does not know she needs to defend against!
