After some fortifying picspam I can actually comment without fear of bursting into tears. I really do think you've captured the...distance that lies in John's heart with this. It just rings very true for me and very sad at the same time without being OMG, what a HORRIBLE life he had. Um. If that makes any sense.

Benign neglect, indifference, distance...horrible in its own way, but slower. Ack. I wrote the thing, but I can't explain it. :)

This is excellent. At the beginning I expected it to be sad but it wasn't. The insight into John was wonderful and I loved the tone and style you used. This is just excellent John backstory.
