I think I really love this story. Jayne's respect for Inara, and the core similarity between their lines of work, are things that the show touches on but never gets a chance to develop, and it's neat to see someone play with them. This fits really well into canon-- it could be a subplot in an episode. I love all the little details: the two of them haggling over the price, and guh, that kiss at the end, which is perfect because it's not sexual, and non-sexual gestures mean more to both of them. Wow.
Yay! I have a glass of lemonade sitting next to the computer, and this is another delicious tart-sweet refresher. And it has to be sorta-kinda like Shindig precisely because of Inara's choice, so there.
I don't think Inara accepts Mal's characterization of her though--I think *she* thinks she belongs to an honorable profession, and one that serves needs that would remain even if there weren't any need for bodyguards.
And Jayne and the Beasts can totally open for Reavers Ate My Baby!
