I've read maybe one book that didn't have quotation marks, and while I enjoyed the book on the whole, I always felt like it was a twee sort of affectation. Like, why would you use a device that makes it harder for your reader to understand and comprehend things? It just throws me out of the story, tbh, and I don't see what you gain from it.

Have you ever read Riders, by Jilly Cooper? Total bonkbuster, but the horse stuff is great. Also Polo.
