I'm wary of OCs, but Jay worked. Jay managed to stand up against the strong characters of the Walker family (not in a confrontational way, but in that... with such a cast of strong characters, an OC needs to be seriously convincing to feel real in comparison) and be interesting in his own right.
Kevin's voice was pitch-perfect, just the right touch of neurotic and charming, a genuinely good person who can still manage to say the most horrible things.
The other thing I adored was the way you handled all of the Walkers. They felt like themselves. From Sarah's bored-sounding interest to Nora's busybody tendencies, from Kitty's close bond with Kevin to Justin's assuming acceptance (and the questionnaire!). Even Tommy's casual definitions of when someone becomes important (after they've survived a family meal) was delightfully in-character.
Thank you! I'm really pleased to hear that the voices worked for you; the characters all have such distinct voices on the show, and capturing them is a little daunting.
This is so awesome. Jay was great, and had just the right amount of patience and firmness to put up with the Walkers.
And of course you did an excellent job with Kevin and his crazy family whom I love. Everybody's reactions seemed so right to me. And I loved the way that you cut some scenes, but left just enough hints that you can guess exactly how they went. Of course Justin had a questionnaire. And Nora's line: "That means talking to Jay, honey. Not shutting him out until your expectations come true." was just so perfectly Nora and so perfectly Kevin.
Thank you! I wanted to write the dinner scenes, but the sheer mechanics of choreographing all of those people kind of scared me off, and also I couldn't get it to work with the alternating phone call structure. I'm glad the gist of them came through despite that. :)
