Puck had been antsy and anxious all morning, since the moment he'd woken up (approximately 3 hours earlier than he needed to), and set about making sure that the house was in order. He'd always been relatively neat, despite his general lack of responsibility when he was younger. These days, he tended to be even better about those things, trying to keep stuff out of Benny's reach and make sure that the little guy was safe at all times. Still, it felt like he should do a quick tidying up for the homecoming of his wife.

Once Benny woke up, he sensed, in his own childlike way that Puck was a little off, and he quickly became more clingy than usual, hanging around at Puck's feet for the rest of the morning until Puck had loaded him up and started off to the airport.

By the time he was standing at the arrivals gate, holding Benny in his arms, Puck felt like he was going to literally burst if he didn't see Dani soon. Six months was long. So fucking long, and being without her had left him with an emptiness in his life that he couldn't deny ( ... )

Dani just nodded when she couldn't find words through all the snot and tears that seemed to want to flood her in public, but she just didn't care. Now that she had them back, she realised exactly how much she had been missing them. It had been the hardest fucking six months of her life, and even though it was fulfilling and she knew she really made an impact over there, she wasn't going to do it again. It wasn't an adventure for a mommy with a family, and some days, she still didn't know how she made it through. She was glad it was over, and she was back where she belonged ( ... )

Puck watched his wife with his son, and it hit him hard and fast how much he'd longed for this life all along. He'd spent so much of his time as a manwhore in high school, and tried the dating scene seriously, only to be cheated on by his last girlfriend, and then Dani had showed up in his life again, just like some kind of angel... Angel with a rocking body, a streak of Italian temper, and killer skills between the sheets, but angel just the same. And they'd made a baby together, and built a life that was distinctly theirs, and when she'd been missing from their home, it had left a gaping hole for him ( ... )

Dani knew she was a mess. It was overwhelming relief to be back home and know that she was staying there forever. Well, at least, if she went anywhere in the future, she wanted it to be with her boys. Her dream to do Doctors Without Borders had been from when she was young and before she hooked back up with Puck or fell pregnant with Benny. That definitely changed the game plan, and Nick had warned her over and over again that it would be one of the hardest things she had to face in leaving for any length of time. In fact, Jeff was the reason Nick didn't even considering joining her on the program like they toyed with one upon a time. He couldn't bare being away from Jeff, and Dani more than respected that. It had been the hardest thing she went through, and she was glad it was over. Somewhere along the way, her previously ambitious game plan had changed to this, the domestic life where she was more than happy being a wife and a mommy ( ... )
