I don't know why they call it a sleep lab

Last night was interesting. I got to the sleep lab, got into my pajamas and the technician proceeded to stick things to my face, neck, scalp, legs, chest and side. Oh, and up my nose. Awesome! There were wires everywhere. The technician was funny and we had a good chat while all this was going on and then she helped me into bed so she could ( Read more... )

Interesting!!
I would love to do something like that, if I didn't have to pay for it :)

It was an interesting experience, and I hope that maybe they will learn something they will help them help me sleep better...and not have so many headaches (since that was the reason I was referred there in the first place).

And yes, I often considered participating in the kind of sleep studies where they pay you to do stuff like this when I was in college, but then somehow never did. And, more recently, a co-worker was pointing out an "insomnia" study where the pay was something like $5500 to have insomnia in their lab instead of in your home so they can watch you. If I didn't have my cats to take care of, I'd consider doing it.

You don't think they'd let you take the boys with you? Just so long as Gwyd didn't pee in the corner where all the wires plug in, I don't see a problem!

I'm just surprised you can say you slept about as well as you usually do, because in a new place, feeling distracting textures, with unusual noises or smells, I get 1 few hour cycle of the deeper stuff and then will thrash fitfully in 3/4 asleep for the rest of a night. So it amazes that you slept anything like as well as usual.

But then, perhaps a lot of my sleep trouble is my thrashing.

My typical sleep pattern is toss and turn for an hour or so, sleep for an hour, wake up, toss and turn, sleep, wake up.....which is pretty much what I did. It might have been a little worse, but not so as to be noticeable. I actually slept a little better that night than I had the night before, when I woke up after only an hour with a coughing fit and didn't get back to sleep for the rest of the night because I felt like my lungs were on fire.
