I have the whole convo saved to my computer, apparently they think that with the amount of systems in place here in the US that it's impossible to even be homeless so you might as well go for broke and follow your dreams.

I mean, I knew what she was trying to say, but she also kept saying my opinion was stupid and that apparently preparing for the worst makes you miss opportunities? Which also made me go 'lolwut' because apparently the ultimate goal when preparing for the worst is avoiding things, which is not true at all.

I kind of want someone to do a dramatic reading of the convo now lol.

(also it's my personal belief that it's kinda dumb to expect the government to back you up when you fail at your own life unless it's extenuating circumstances, then again I'm a VERY independent person who doesn't like to depend greatly on people for basic life stuff all the time).

Jeez. Of all the rationalizations for not caring to have a back-up plan (and it's possible to follow your dreams while considering what might happen if it backfires, people!) the government is the absolute last safety net I'd want to rely on, in any country. It's like these people actually think it cares about them as individuals. Gah, come on, the US doesn't have as much as free health care. These people must all live in some comfortable cocoon of Ignoring Inconvenient Realities.

The US pretty much has no free health care, at least state-sponsored. And the stuff that is free is meant mostly for low-income families/illegal immigrants. But yeah, I definately agree with you. And honestly, while homeless shelters serve a purpose, I wouldn't want to risk going into one unless I was in dire straights that I couldn't avoid :'D
