Without having read it, I'd guess the one bare foot to be one of Delaney's Things, just like the dirt under the fingernails that shows up in both Nova and Stars...

What's with Frank Muir getting a co-author credit on 1066...? I can't believe he'd have been more than a teenager when the book was first published; did he write a foreword for your edition, or something along those lines?

Tsk! That'll teach me to just go by the amazon listing. The edition I read is the 1954 one, and doesn't list Muir. Looking at the amazon one, it looks like he gets credit for having written the introduction, yeah.
