I don't think you can hit reset until something triggers it, or many things trigger it. The only analogies I can think of are really cliche, so I won't say any.
I would be really weighed down if I thought my job was important, or if I had nothing going on except my job. And that's difficult when you spend the greater portion of each day at work, sure. But it's just like.. when you're not working, why wouldn't you have fun? What's stopping you? And when you get to the point where everything around you is fun, everythings else is just.. else.
But that's me on a good day, ask me again when I'm grumpy.
"younger self"??? You're still a puppy! At your age I was walking across Lynn carrying 100+lbs of books. For Fun! Uphill. In the Snow! Stoned out of my gourd!
(I jest. It was only about 2 miles and less than half of it was uphill, and there was only snow some of the time)
The best thing you can do for your outlook is to get out of retail. I'm dead serious. I did that hell for 7 years. The best thing I ever did was leave it. I've been out of it for 7-1/2 years and not only have I tripled my salary; but I don't hate going to work every day and I don't hate humanity anymore.
Seriously, people in retail get treated like shit; from both the customers and the company they work for. It's not even all of the customers that suck. It's less than 10%; but those are the ones that take up half of your time and make you want to light them on fire.
