I don't know what silverbeet is... but I know I don't like cooked spinach! I like it raw (baby leaves) in salads like you say, but I've always hated like the canned version. I thought sauteeing baby spinach for just a bit would be good, but once it heated up it smelled just like the old canned kind, to me. I couldn't take it. I used olive oil though. Maybe I should try it in butter and not cook it for so long...

Anyway, good luck with your weight goals. I know you've joined something already but http://www.sparkpeople.com seems pretty good if you ever want to try something else.

See, the fresh spinach I fried (wilted) for two minutes or so was quite bitter but in no way as bitter as the silverbeet I ate as a child. Silverbeet is similar to the Irish Kale varieties of plant and is choc full of iron and whatever else makes it taste like medicine :)

It's quite possible you'll never get past the taste of spinach now as it's quite normal for humans to reject bitter food because most poison is bitter.

For what it's worth, I've never had canned spinach but I imagine it doesn't nice at all.

Hi Luvey

Glad to read youve found some work, even if temping. Me Ive had no luck. Semms the crisis has finally hit here too :(

I joined Weight Watchers a month ago and have lot 4kg! After seeing some of the fat photos you took of me when you were over, being asked if I was pregnant by a complete stranger and trying to squeeze into an old pair of jeans that gave me a massive muffin top, I decided enough is enough!

I agree with the boiled silverbeet my parents put me through it too. Try frying spinach with onion and garlic mmm....

luv

So lovely to hear from you (all). I got some strange looks on the weekend when I explained that I had stolen the pink Converse I was wearing from my teenage Goddaughter though :)

So sorry to hear you are having trouble finding work but it was simply a matter of time before the wind of recession blew towards Australia. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Something needs to give. We're good girls, we deserve breaks etc.

Oh yeah, remember the book I left on the Buddha statue outside the Nan Tiem temple? I just got a note back from someone who found it. Cool hey?

Ciao lovely

I'm catching up on blogs this week, and here's where I'm starting.

Like AmyL, I'm trying to wrap my brain around like cooked spinach, as my childhood exposure to it wasn't canned but frozen and I'm sure pretty much the same. It's just basically nasty, regardless :)

However, I'm reminded that I *do* use the frozen spinach in my spinach dip, which is lovely ... even if it is mostly sour cream and mayo!

Your parents clearly need to repent.

I have known of the Hillsborough Disaster but didn't know it was "called" that. So sad and horrifying. I think it's good to remember, but not to give yourself nightmares. I know it's been some time since you wrote this, so I'm hoping you're better now.
