Honda Civic Tour in Denver

Jun 03, 2008 23:37

Just got back from HCT and figured I'd try to post a wee bit, since I still haven't posted from the May shows of awesome. I'm still totally goofy from the show, so. Here we go!

phineasjones and I got to the venue at around 4 pm, which was awesome - had a nice leisurely day involving tea, toast, lunch, yard work, learning how to play Welcome to the Black Parade on harmonica, lazing about, general awesomeness. I ♥ early entry.

Phin got in her early entry line, and I got in my meet and greet line with bloodygoodgirl, siren_mage, little_whittles, and weird_one. Zack was awesome and came out to direct us. He handed out the wrist bands but announced that he wouldn't be putting them on us because he didn't want to touch us because we all have germs. While we were waiting, Erik Ronnick spent some time hanging out on the sidewalk nearby talking on his cell phone. I saw him and did some flailing in Phin's direction, who was nearby, almost at the level of Bob, I see you pee! but this time my arm flailing was hidden by the line of other meet & greeters, bless 'em.

Then we headed inside. Zack gave us a lecture about not being creepy when meeting the guys. As he was giving this lecture I was thinking, I'm totally good. I'm not going to say anything at all! Hurrah! I had already learned this fool-proof way to avoid embarrassment when confronted with the overwhelming awesome that is Ray Toro in person, with a side order of Brian Schechter. We waited a bit more, and then the guys came on out, and waved to those of us waiting in the second meet and greet line. They took pictures and signed stuff with the first line (Honda-related folks?) and then we came through. The line order was Spencer, Brendon, Ryan, then Jon, with Zack standing next to Spencer to make sure none of us did anything creepy. siren_mage had them sign her bunny, and Spencer signed it and then made it do a little dance and was super cute and smiley.

Then I gave Spencer my beginner's harmonica book to sign.

Spencer: (pauses to read book, then flips through a few pages) Oh, this is cool.
me: I'm just learning.
Spencer: Cool! (smiley, eye contact!) What key is your harmonica in?
me: G.
Spencer: Hey Brendon, what key is Folkin' Around in?
Brendon (looks at book): G.
Spencer (grin): You should come onstage and play with us tonight!

And ok, how frickin' ADORABLE is Spencer Smith? At this point, my brain was just going "DOOOOT" because, as mentioned earlier, my brilliant plan had been to say nothing at all. So then I said: "I brought my harmonica!" (... /o\) Because I did actually bring my harmonica, but for fun! To like, amuse me and Phin in line! And because I love it and it's shiny and pretty! Not so that I could offer to play backup to Panic when I met them. Oh sigh.

Spencer and Brendon both just smiled and nodded at me, and Brendon said something like cool! while signing the book. A part of my head was going, omg, did I really just tell Spencer that I had brought my harmonica with me, as in, sure, I can come play on stage with you?! Which is why when I got to Ryan I was less than smooth again.

Ryan (reads the cover, smiles): Cool.
me: I'm just learning.
Ryan (eye contact!): Me too.
me (stunned by eye contact, stuttering): But you. Are. Awesome on the. Har. Monica. (I think I may have even had one hand gesturing towards him to somehow imply that he was awesome. /o\)
Ryan: Well, thank you!

Then Jon signed the book and I managed to get away without any further dorkitude, because Jon was busy modeling for me and then Ryan the sweet hot-pink drinky-straw fake-grass sunglasses siren_mage had give him. They were awesome.

Jon (to Ryan): These are awesome!

Then I got back into line with the bandom gang, and flailed a bit, and spent a good bit of time repeating to myself I brought my harmonica! /o\ I am a huge dork. Here's the book:

Then we got around to take pictures. I gave Zack my camera (how much do I love that Zack takes the pictures!) and went over to them, and asked Brendon if we could rock out (making a rock hand). Brendon said, "Of course we can!" in the most adorable and soothing tone of voice. And that's how we got this picture:

After it was over, Ryan looked at Jon and then at the rest of us and said, "Oh, I'm gonna look stupid in that picture." ♥!!! Also, what is Spencer doing with his hand? Throw up your... other fingers, yeah! ♥

In conclusion, how so adorable, Panic at the Disco? Also, how am I the biggest dork? It's a talent, really. Although looking at Brendon's face in that picture makes me feel a bit better. He is totally adorkable.

Then we got some sweet upper-level seats and waited for everyone else to come in and the show to get started. There was no Doug tonight, :( so we started right off with Phantom Planet, and they Rocked Out. Srs bsnss. They had Ryan come on for one song, and all of the Hush Sound for another, and Alex spent a good portion of the show lost in the pit. They were so, so good. Videos of all that coming later.

The Hush Sound was great. Brendon joined them for one song, and Erik Ronnick came to play keyboard so Greta could walk around the stage and make everyone in the room want to have her babies. \o/ Greta!

During the break before Motion City Soundtrack, Phin, bloodygoodgirl and I went over to where Phantom Planet was signing stuff. Ok, since I got to meet them in Boston (er, someday I'll post about that too), I've just been getting to love their music and their awesomeness. Especially their drummer Jeff. He is so sweet and adorable! I've also been wanting someone to sign my face or at least my arm - a souvenir, whee! Phin is my decider when I get into states of post- or pre-Spencer flail, and she approved of the arm-signing plan and actually shoved me at Jeff, so. I chatted with Alex briefly and asked him when they were next going to be in New England. He said they were touring with Paramore, but that he didn't know the schedule. At this point Jeff chimed in to say that they'd be in New England in August, to which I said awesome! And thanks! to Alex, and then I jumped over to Jeff, and thanked him also, and then said that I had something really silly to ask and would he maybe sign my arm? And he said, "That's not silly!" and signed my arm. I was all yay! and \o/ and then Phin took a picture of me with my arm while Jeff, Darren and Sam looked on bemusedly.

My arm, from later:

I heart Jeff. He is the sweetest and the adorablest. He and Spencer should start a drum band. Or a drum circle. I could come play harmonica.

Videos and more pics later (light sabers! Zack, everyone's hero! jazz hands! gun slingin' hands! bubbles!), but to sum up for now: OMG SPENCER SMITH ILU. Also, ♥ shows in general and tonight in particular. Heart!

phantom planet, hush sound, patd, i play a huge dork in real life, bandom, concert report
