Jaymin looks at her present with a critical eye, little arms folded across her chest, and Kyuhyun holds his breath without quite realising it, hoping that she isn’t as smart as her older brother and won’t notice. This hope is shot to the ground when she sighs and turns to Sungmin.
“Oppa,” she says. “My unicorn has a zipper.”
Sungmin glares at Kyuhyun, and he can’t work out whether Sungmin is being serious or is laughing at him underneath the daggers. “Kyuhyun!” he says in a scandalized voice. “Did you buy your little sister a defective unicorn?”
“Well, um,” says Kyuhyun. “No?”
Sungmin lets out a snort of laughter that he covers with a cough, and Jaymin glares at Kyuhyun. “Kyu-oppa,” she says seriously. “Why does my unicorn have a zipper?”
“Well, you know, Jaymin,” says Kyuhyun desperately. “Unicorns are hard to find and very expensive so.”
“Oppa said you could get me a unicorn!” Jaymin looks on the verge of tears; Kyuhyun feels exactly the same.
“I know Sungmin said I could get you a unicorn,” he says, glaring at Sungmin, who just grins back in a winning sort of way. “But it wasn’t as easy as he said it was - I don’t really have a special paddock in my back yard full of them.”
“Oppa wouldn’t lie to me,” says Jaymin solemnly.
“That’s right, Kyuhyun,” says Sungmin. “I wouldn’t lie to her.”
“I will get you back for this,” says Kyuhyun in a low voice - Sungmin just smiles brightly - and then, to Jaymin; “I’m sorry, Jaymin, this was the best I could do on short notice.”
“Give it up, Kyuhyun,” says Siwon, taking the head off the unicorn costume he wears, hair stuck to his face. “She’s too smart for us.”
“Siwon-oppa, you were in there?” Jaymin says brightly, and she tugs on his rainbow coloured tail. “Siwon-oppa, can I have a piggy-back ride?”
“Just let me get out of this costume,” he says, and he wanders back into Sungmin’s house that they have taken over for the day for the grand unveiling of “Jaymin’s Magic Rainbow Unicorn” - Siwon had been the only one that they’d been able to talk into wearing the costume.
Heechul turns to Hankyung thoughtfully. “Hankyung,” he says. “I want a unicorn too.”
Xiao Li grabs hold of his arm and presses up against his side. “I want one too,” she says in a pouting tone.
“Oh, for fucks sake,” says Hankyung. “Siwon, get back here!”
