Thanks for story and for the link to that article. (It must be very interesting to take a look at the "manual" itself! Oh, and that part where they say they were being affected by some of the expressions they were making was revealing, too! ;D) You've made such a perfect use of those concepts in your story that it seems really natural. :) Of course it's the right character to apply that. ;) I mean, our dear Snape must have had to develop a lot of skills in terms of observation and analysis in order to survive (even when he was just a child). And it's so moving that he tries to teach Draco some of it... and also so sad. :/ And the idea of that quote - and, of course, the way you "translated" it into that scene when Snape is observing Draco and Harry is amazing. And makes you feel so sorry for Snape - not because of Draco exactly, but because of himself, because he is always so, so lonely... Oh, this is getting too long. Sorry about that. ;)
I'd love to look at that manual! I'm fascinated by body language. There's a Deaver novel I read where the heroine is an expert in involuntary communication - Sleeping Doll, I think it was - and he gave a list of books to check out if you were interested in learning more - I will have to try to hunt some down.
I quite often feel sorry for Snape - he's so competant and in control, but like you say, he's so alone.
I hope you can find those books, and if you like them, pls let us know. ;) When I was reading that article you mentioned (about FACS)I tried to find some kind of sample and after a little search I found a link to chapters 1 and 2. If you want to take a look, it's here: http: //face-and-emotion. com/ dataface/facs/manual/ TOC.html (I hope the link's still working. ;) I apologize in advance if it's not ok to put the link here.) Yes, Snape is really alone. Dumbledore may have been a friend - or some kind of ally - but I'm not sure I can imagine them talking about feelings and sharing emotional experiences. :/
