Very, very nice....and quite affecting. Beautifully written! An excellent piece for Remembrance Day: this was as much (more, maybe?) a part of history as the heroism and victory we tend to prefer. A different kind of courage--not so glamorous, certainly--but heroism still.

And Command a King's Ship! One of my favorites...the end, particularly.

*bows* Thank you! It was a delightful challenge to write, for I've never directly written a disabled character. You're very right, though. Accolades and glory are only one part of the whole, but the part that is given the most attention.

Seems to me that you met that challenge admirably. Gibbons was neither pitiful nor superhuman...just, simply, 'getting on with it.' As you say, training himself to live all over again. As good a description as any, I should think.
