Oooh, that's awesome, and makes me wonder what you'd make of a Lovecraftian Deep One (if you do end up running out of ideas). I especially like the polyp on the tail.
Ya know, I still haven't read any of Lovecraft's stories despite being on my to do list for ages. The bulb is a combination of pneumatocysts that you see on spme seaweeds like the bladder wrack, and the structure of some holdfasts that can contract to pull the organism deeper into the bottom sediment.
Also, even though I've already filled a prompt of yours, you can still make another. :)
I'm adding pneumatocyst to my vocabulary :D (Knew they had a name, but couldn't remember what).
Oooh, I feel a bit greedy for doing this, but... I'd love to see your take on merfolk (which is kinda like Deep Ones, only not really).
Oh, and one great thing about Lovecraft is that he never wrote anything longer than a novella, so even though his prose is very dense and you might want to slap him upside the head sometimes for his attitude, his stories are quite quick to read.
I used to know the word and forgot, I had to look it up again. :/ At least it's a pretty easy word, terminology-wise.
*snickersnort* What kind of merfolk? I have a ton already, they were my major obsession right before I got into Transformers, and they've even got their own tag. Though I warn you, my braintwin likes to complain that I've spoiled them forever on merfolk, mostly because I use real animals as major parts of their designs. Got everything from barnacles, nudibranchs to gulper eels.
Well that explains why when I found one of his books at a garage sale it wasn't all that long. For some reason I was expecting him to write thicker stories. Might just have to try to find it in the gaping cavern that I call my library, and it read this month.
