I bet if you poke around in your mouth, touch the inside of your cheek, right up near the back molar, where the gums meet the cheek at the very very back, you'll probably find the bump that alerted your dentist to all this.
mine gets inflamed every once in a while. though I don't think it's ever gotten so bad that it's backed up the lymph node.
Actually the dentist noticed because he always does a neck and jaw palpation as part of his general exam.
I approve of this practice, and wish all dentists did it - especially since it clearly does provide an early warning of developments the patient might not notice. I just wish I'd gotten to see my doctor sooner, before the ear started bothering me.
