in the wee small hours ...

May 11, 2006 03:12

I am wide awake, in part because of caffeinated headache meds that mercifully are working (*dances*), and in part because of that 3.5 hour pass-out I did this afternoon.

And so, a bookish meme featuring 93 (?!) women authors, yoinked from sakuraigirl:

snipped for length )

booklist, books, meme

what's your life like around 6 pm?

I just got off the phone and have almost no voice, but it may be somewhat returned by then.

I knew I wouldn't be doing this mimi. The only ones that I've read are:
  1. Austen, Jane - Emma
  2. Hamilton, Edith - Mythology
  3. Lee, Harper - To Kill a Mockingbird
  4. Shelley, Mary - Frankenstein

I've read tons of Agatha Christie but not Orient Express. I've read George Elliot's other book Silas Marner. I think that Rachel Ray is really cute.

that's the thing - i've read SO MANY other things by a lot of these women, but not the titles specified. Which seem pretty random to me, and to carpetofstars below. I find it odd for example that Cat's Eye is listed for Atwood in lieu of, say, The Handmaid's Tale. or a book I've never heard of by Alice Walker, instead of The Color Purple. I mean srsly. Come ON.

cat's eye - this is an atwood that i keep looking at on the library shelf, but browsing the flyleaf hasn't persuaded me to read it. funny, when i've read and enjoyed several of her other works.

emma - i really didn't enjoy austen's style in pride and prejudice, so i'm a little hesitant to get bogged down in her prose again. i know i know, color me clueless and sacrilegious. :D

the others - yeah, 3 of them are on my intention list, and if i'd known woman on the edge of time existed, i may well have already read it. way back in college, i liked Piercy's poetry.
