Sometimes, I really boggle at how my brain works - how the subconscious links that it finds between past and present, fiction and real-life experience so often yield startling, if not terribly life-altering, discoveries I don't believe a more logical, fully-conscious thought sequence ever would lead me to.

Yeah, I recently heard a last name of one of our authors that reminded me of someone I went to junior high with. I moved from NY to TN just before 9th grade, and although my NY school was very high-achieving, my school in TN really wasn't. (Not that this would really surprise anyone.) Anyway, I became a slacker and never quite recovered. I am a grad school drop-out, after all. Not that my current job is all that shabby. But anyway, I started looking up some of my junior high friends on the "interweb" (I so love Stephen Colbert). They're all high-powered brainiacs. I don't think any are in think tanks, though. But still, they're all movers and shakers. And I'm just me. A pretty sweet but not powerful job. And full time concert junkie. It makes me feel somewhat inadequate, but maybe I'm happier (and less stressed out?) for being "less successful."

Really, I'm just so pleased for him. He has made a career out of doing what he was really good at and interested in even back then, and (especially given the politics in this township, and an Air Force family background) it's good to see he's a voice for the "good guys", a reasoning influence in assessing our international involvements ( ... )
