California, how could you?

A lot of friends are posting to ask "California, how could you?!" Prop 8, which takes away gay people's constitutional right to marriage, passed 52-48. I'm not an expert on it, but here's a little more of the picture

What proportion of San Francisco's population do you suppose consists of socially conservative non-whites?

I suppose we have quite a few. But I still have to wonder what the experience of living here must be like for them.

It's also worth noting how much the LDS church and its followers (but not all of them, of course) very disproportionately bankrolled the Yes campaign.
