The Excitement of choosing and planting your seeds.
The joy as they break the soil and develop their first leaves.

The anger and futility of it all as the unstoppable army of slugs and snails scoff the lot.

Bastards all of them.

Lord, yes.

I've been able to do w/o slug-death-pellets for the last two seasons because the hard winters killed off the eggs.

This time the sods had killed off the picking cucumbers as soon as they'd sprouted (and I can't find the damn seeds to replant for another go), so I have run a trail of wee blue pellets round every pot and bag I care about.

It's not like they're endangered or anything...

Next year I swear they are to become an endangered species in my garden.

Replant in pots, and put copper tape around the edges. It reacts with the slime, and they don't like it. I know it's a right old pain though!

Aw, hon. {:( We just did an emergency trip to the garden center today. At lunchtime, I looked out our back door, and went, "*Squeeee* There is a wild pheasant in our garden! How odd....that's never happened before." I enjoyed watching him have a little explore and wander about.

Until his stealth behaviour was revealed as he took some sneaky nips at our raspberry canes!!!

After a few mini games of hide and seek ("I can still SEE you back there!") I physically went out and chased him off. We now have a makeshift "cage" of bamboo canes and net! We did manage to harvest half a bowlfull, but no guarantee we'll get any more if we aren't careful!

Guy's Mum did ask us why we weren't having pheasant stuffed with raspberries for next Sunday lunch.......

Our Nematoda are wearing off and the damage our side of the fence is increasing. Plus, the vast amount of aphids on the cherry tree have killed the cherry crop before it got started this year.

I blame the stupid weather patterns we've been having lately.

sadly this weather is perfect breeding conditions for them - I take it you've utilized all slug elimination methods from that book we got you ages ago? ;P

I've heard there are evil immigrant Spanish slugs. Maybe you could negotiate...
