Posh hotel on the "Rivera Maya" tries to eject Nobel laureate for being Maya.
Rigoberta Menchú in Cancun

I recall some 30 years ago the first Maya governor of Yucatan, Francisco Luna Kan, was ejected from the train to Mexico City-- reportedly they couldn't believe an indio could be anyone important. Would have been nice to see ( Read more... )

Haven't been to Cancun; been to Cozumel when my cruise ship docked there. Plan to keep it that way myself.

That's the plan.

I've never seen the appeal of going to distant lands and staying in a place that isolates you from the local culture.

I dunno. Google news still has reports of it happening going around, and I can't find anything either confirming or denying it on The Guardian, where this one supposedly originated.
