My father has had cataract surgery on both eyes--they seem to run in his family, and it's quite possible that I'll get them too. His second operation was just last week and he says his vision dramatically improved almost immediately afterward.

I've worn glasses since I was about 7 or so. Yeah, you seem a little young for cataracts, but hope surgery will go well for you.

I tend to squick at things like this, so hope they'll give you lots of good drugs. @whee!

Oh, I certainly have a squick factor about having them cut my damn eyes, especially since it's usually done under local now adays. I'll be glad to have it over with, but really would prefer not to have to be there while it's being done... with luck I'll at least get enough stuff to be zoned into not much caring.

I seem to remember my dad getting Valium or some othe r zone-out drug for his eye surgery not long ago.

Yeah, I'd have a squick factor about having my eyes cut, too. That's why I'm scared to death to get Lasik or other vision correction.

*hug*

It's outpatient, right? You can start using your eye right after the surgery and such? Will they also do vision correction while you are getting the cataract out? :)

I actually had a cop pull me over -- and with the spotlights shining directly into my sideview and rearview mirrors, I was squinting and didn't realize he wanted me to follow his pen with my eyes as a sobriety test (I was squinting!).

I caught on but he asked if I had been drinking and I said no, he said "well your eyes tell me otherwise." I said "I have an astigmatism." He replied "Is that a *natural* astigmatism?" NO DICKHEAD! IT'S FROM YOUR LIGHTS SHINING DIRECTLY IN MY EYES WHEN IT IS NIGHT TIME!!! eeesh.

anyway. I passed all their little tests as I was sober but what the hell would be a non-natural astigmatism?
