I asked the boyfriend about the Palestinian mandate (he did his thesis on the two-state solution), and he suggested going to a library. He also said "A lot of the stuff on the net about that era is highly politicised. The further away from the events we get, the more they seem to be politicised, rather than less", so you probably want to look for sources written around that time.

I also e-mailed a friend who taught the Israel-Palestine conflict to some high schoolers last year, and if I get anything back from her I'll let you know.
