Maybe the Feds were responsible for NO flooding, but what I think is really unforgiveable is that taxpayer dollars were used to rebuild that place.

Taxpayer dollars should not be used to subsidize human stupidity. One of the best definitions, in my book, of human stupidity is choosing to live in a place that is both hurricane prone and below sea level.

NO should have been abandoned and those dollars used to relocate citizens. Certainly people could not be forced to abandon NO, but the government could have said "You have a choice: We'll pay you $100k to relocate to an area that is not prone to hurricanes, or you can stay in NO and forfeit any assistance."

One of the best definitions, in my book, of human stupidity is choosing to live in a place that is both hurricane prone and below sea level.

I think more than a few brains are going to short-circuit as they chew on that. It's cruel, probably inhuman, but rock-solid in terms of pure logic, and has probably been said in more thoughts than most would care to admit.
