As if I need any further reminders that the man who currently governs my home state of New Jersey is an asshole, there is apparently new lows to where he can sink.

Yes, you read that right: a bipartisan bill to fill a needed hole in how evidence is gathered in a rape kit and who pays for it is being held up by that jackhole Christie because he wants ( Read more... )

The sad thing is that unless it happens to someone in his family (or people in the same line of thinking), they're going to keep thinking just like this. Sadly, even if it were to happen to their own wives, daughters, sons, parents, etc., there's still going to be people who are rather heartless about it. Of course, I don't wish this on anyone but, damn, I wish there was a way for people like this to see that this isn't just a scraped knee issue that will heal itself with a bandage and antibiotics.

That's because when it comes to (heterosexual)sex and sexuality, those people are of the mindset that all blame for anything that happens falls on the woman and not the man involved. Women are "slutty" for acting certain ways and men are "studs". It's a mindset that needs to change, and certainly society needs to see that it takes two to tango in a consensual situation, and at the same time realize that rape is not about sex, but about the need to control and have power on the part of the rapist and that he's not going to be one to go around with a sign on his head that alerts women that he is a rapist. Sadly, this country has some very antiquated (and notably religiously fundamentalist views) on relations between male and female and I don't see that changing in the years to come any time soon.
