Title: Double Dare
Pairing/Focus: Dongwoo/Woohyun (2woo)
Rating: R (for suggestive themes towards the end)
Word Count: 21,031 words
Summary: Because Dongwoo is a man, and men always do dares.
Dongwoo hurried to class, ignoring the weird stares he was getting. Sungjong tied off his wig into two pigtails and forced a green beanie on his head. Dongwoo complained about it being hot, but Sungjong told him that's what he got for abusing the wig.
All he had to do was survive the day without running into Woohyun, and he'd be golden. He would fail the challenge, Sunggyu would be free to go after his man, and Dongwoo would push this memory into the depths of his mind.
"Julia!" Dongwoo was so lost in his thoughts, he kept walking and didn't even stop until he felt a hand on his shoulder, making him jump.
"Julia! I've been calling your name for the past five minutes. I didn't realize you walked so fast." Dongwoo blinked a few times and inwardly cringed. So much for avoiding Woohyun.
"Oh, sorry. I was... thinking about stuff." And I forgot that my name is 'Julia', now.
Woohyun laughed at him and smiled. "You looked like you were thinking pretty hard about something. You know, if you think too hard, you'll get permanent lines on your forehead." And for emphasis, Woohyun poked Dongwoo in the forehead. Dongwoo rolled his eyes and turned his head away so Woohyun wouldn't see.
"Where are you headed next?" Woohyun asked. Dongwoo rattled off the details of his next class, and felt himself pale when Woohyun said that was where he was headed next.
"We're in the same class! Go figure!"
"Yeah, go figure," Dongwoo said, forcing a smile on his face.
--
If anything, Woohyun was one of the most annoying people to sit next to during class. He was the student that like to crack jokes during class and asked too many questions.
Way too many questions.
And when he wasn’t asking questions, he was pointing out points that Dongwoo missed in a whisper, making Dongwoo cringe slightly. He had no idea he and Woohyun shared this class, and school had been going on for at least a few weeks now.
Maybe he should’ve paid more attention in class. How could he have possibly missed Woohyun’s obnoxiousness in this class? But it wasn’t really obnoxiousness. People paid more attention, laughed with or at him and his questions, but the atmosphere in class always seemed nice. Dongwoo decided that he needed to stop sleeping in class.
--
He and Woohyun parted ways for Dongwoo’s next class, much to his relief. He felt like Woohyun was smothering him, or just really desperate for his attention.
Dongwoo zoned in and out of his class until it was time to leave, and suddenly, he felt the call of nature. He sighed and made his way to the bathroom, pushing open the door and stepping inside and immediately heading for one of the stalls.
He was muttering incoherently to himself, something about murdering Sungjong in his sleep, or torturing Hoya until died when he came out of the stall and washed his hands. He stared at himself in the mirror above the sink and sighed.
What kind of self respecting man was he? He sighed again and adjusted his backpack and purse before heading back out and pushing the door open. He heard someone’s voice on the other side of the door and froze.
“... Julia? What are you doing in the men’s room?” Woohyun asked with his eyebrows raised in surprise.
Dongwoo stared at him like a deer stuck in headlights and started stuttering, turning towards the sign next to the door with the picture of the man.
“Oh god, Julia. Not again. Are you wearing your contacts?” Dongwoo saw Myungsoo pass by with an amused smile on his face.
“I-I-I-”
“I’ll take that as a no. And you don’t even have your glasses. I told you, you need to wear them so stuff like this doesn’t happen. I’m sorry, she’s not usually like this,” Myungsoo said to Woohyun with a smile. Woohyun looked between the two of them as Myungsoo reached out to grab Dongwoo’s hand and pull him out of the bathroom.
“Oh, are you two...” Woohyun pointed in between Dongwoo and Myungsoo with wide eyes.
“What? Oh god no. I’ve known Julia forever. I wouldn’t be able to date her. She’s practically a man to me,” Myungsoo said with a smirk towards Dongwoo. Dongwoo glared at him and made a mental note to draw on Myungsoo’s face with a permanent marker while he was sleeping.
Relief washed over Woohyun’s face for a moment before he started to smile. “Good thing it wasn’t someone else going into the restroom. Imagine how embarrassing that would be.”
“Yeah, Julia. Imagine how embarrassing that would be if someone walked in on you while you were using the restroom.” If looks could kill, Myungsoo would be dead on the floor.
--
Dongwoo was so tired by the end of the day, he wanted nothing more than to just go home and pass out in his bed. But tests were coming up next week, and he was letting his homework pile up more than he should. Usually, Sunggyu took him back to the apartment after class on that day in exchange for food at the apartment.
But for some reason, Sunggyu wasn’t at the spot where they usually met, making Dongwoo frown. He discretely checked his phone in his purse, just in case Woohyun was around. He’d lied and said that he didn’t have a phone just so he wouldn’t have to talk too much to him.
“Oh my god, Sunggyu, where are you?! These tights are killing me,” Dongwoo mumbled to himself, adjusting the back. A couple of people gave him weird looks but at this point, he didn’t really care.
“Hey, Julia. Sorry I’m late, did you wait long?” Dongwoo turned around and had half the mind to punch Sunggyu for being late until he saw Woohyun standing next to him with an impossibly bright smile on his face. He was the only one that seemed happy, because the looks on Dongwoo’s and Sunggyu’s faces were strained for various reasons.
“No, I didn’t.”
“Sunggyu told me he was taking you home after class today, and I told him I wanted to talk to you so...” Woohyun turned to Sunggyu, clearing giving him a look that said he wanted to get some privacy. Sunggyu gave Woohyun a look of disbelief. He already knew what Woohyun was going to ask. He’d texted him constantly asking about ‘Julia’s’ favorite foods.
Sunggyu fumed for a moment before taking a few steps away and occupying himself with counting bricks in the building next to them. Maybe he’d chuck a few at Woohyun’s head.
“So, uh... I know you’re not staying here for long, but would you be interested in having dinner with me tomorrow? I know this nice little restaurant we can go to that serves some really good food.” Dongwoo knew this was coming, but when Woohyun actually asked him, he had no idea what to say.
“Oh, sure,” he heard himself say. Dongwoo wanted to reach out and catch those words as soon as they came out of his mouth and stuff them back into his brain before Woohyun could hear, but the smile on Woohyun’s face became almost permanent.
“Great! Uh. I’ll see you tomorrow? I’ll text you- Oh wait. You don’t have a phone. Do you have a number I can reach you at or...” Dongwoo stared at him blankly before Woohyun stared back and shook his head. “Nevermind, I’ll just text Sunggyu! Thanks! I’ll see you!”
Woohyun turned around and waved before walking off. He punched Sunggyu in the arm and said he’d text him later before hurrying off and disappearing into the crowd.
“You just agreed to go out on a date with him,” Sunggyu said, deadpanning.
“I know,” Dongwoo said, with equal deadpan.
--
“Yes! Yes! He’s already asked you out on a date. Oh my god, I can’t wait to plan out your outfit for the date. Did he tell you where he was taking you?” Sungjong asked excitedly as Dongwoo stared off into the distance.
Sunggyu was brooding in the kitchen, eating some of Dongwoo’s favorite ramen. Myungsoo and Sungyeol were on the floor having a thumb war while Hoya laid out on the couch, laughing like a maniac.
“This is so hilarious. He’s asked you out on a date already. Sunggyu, isn’t that funny?” Hoya asked, sitting up and looking over the couch.
“Yeah, it’s hilarious,” he said without any emotion.
“Oh, come on. You said Woohyun doesn’t swing that way. Why are you being like this?”
“Just because he doesn’t swing that way doesn’t mean I don’t like him. You’re such a douchebag, Hoya. Why am I friends with you?” Everyone looked up at Sunggyu before turning towards Hoya. Sunggyu didn’t usually get snippy like that with anyone, preferring to just laugh along with the jokes.
Immediately, Dongwoo felt guilty again. “Sunggyu, if you really like him, then I can just quit this dare. I don’t really care what the consequences will be. I don’t have any dignity left anyway,” he said gloomily, sinking into the seat and covering himself with a pillow.
“Well, it’s too late now. He’s really looking forward to his date with ‘Julia.’ It’s all he’s been texting me about since you agreed.” Dongwoo sighed.
--
Dongwoo decided that if he had to spend his evening dressed as a girl, then he would get to go to class as a man, as regular old Dongwoo.
“Dongwoo, how good to see you,” Myungsoo said as he passed by Dongwoo on the way to class. Dongwoo reached out and punched him hard in the arm, Myungsoo’s laughter ringing out in the crowd.
He had to admit, it felt good to be in boxers, a loose pair of jeans, and a t-shirt. He was never going to take his clothes for granted ever again. As Dongwoo got closer to his class though, he noticed Woohyun standing outside of it, glancing at his watch every now and then.
Probably waiting for Julia, Dongwoo thought to himself. Then he was overwhelm with a sense of guilt again. Woohyun was waiting for someone who wasn’t real and wouldn’t be going to class that day. His guilt only magnified when Woohyun checked his watch again and sighed, looking around for her.
Dongwoo approached the door and pulled it open, catching Woohyun’s eyes for a second before looking away and stepping inside. Woohyun blinked a few times in confusion. Those eyes looked familiar.
--
Dongwoo was enjoying his nap in his bed after class when he felt someone patting at his face. He groaned and shoved at them, rolling over and ignoring the indignant yell.
“Dongwoo! Get up and let me moisturize your face! You’ve gotta get up so we can get you ready for your big date with Woohyun!” Dongwoo protested into his pillow and refused to move. “If you don’t get up, then the bb cream isn’t going to have time to adjust to your skin color, and you’re gonna look like you’re wearing a mask. Do you want that, Dongwoo? Do you want that?”
Dongwoo didn’t answer Sungjong for a moment, but eventually rolled off of his bed and onto the floor, right on top of Sungjong.
--
Sungjong picked out a modest little outfit for Dongwoo. Even Dongwoo had to admit he looked pretty good in the simple dark green ruffled skirt, black blouse, with a cardigan over it. Sungjong clipped Dongwoo’s hair up with a flower patterned clip.
His makeup was simple and accented his natural... beauty. “Oh god. Did I just think that?” Dongwoo said out loud, staring at himself in his mirror.
“Think what?” Sungjong asked, adjusting a few things here and there. “Oh, Sunggyu told me that Woohyun told him that he was going to meet you outside of the apartment building. Something about respecting your personal space. ‘Julia’ really has to get a phone. I mean, Sunggyu looked like he was going to snap something.”
And there it was again, the bubbling feeling of guilt that’d been bothering him for the past few nights.
“Sunggyu really likes him... I feel bad about doing this,” Dongwoo said with a sigh, staring at himself in the mirror. Sungjong pursed his lips.
“Well... Don’t tell Hoya I told you this, okay?” Dongwoo turned towards Sungjong with a raised eyebrow.
“Don’t tell Hoya you told me what?”
“Okay, so Hoya’s been really pissed off lately at how whiney Sunggyu’s been about Woohyun, and you know how he’s always like, telling him to just go for it and stuff? Well, he’s using you to make Sunggyu jealous, so he’ll finally snap and confess to Woohyun!” Dongwoo blinked a few times before his face turned into a scowl.
“No, no, don’t do that, you’ll crease your makeup,” Sungjong cried as Dongwoo grabbed his phone and punched in a few numbers, making Sungjong panic again. “No, no, no, don’t do that either, or Hoya will crease my face!”
--
Dongwoo was positively fuming as he waited outside of his apartment complex. Sungjong managed to calm him down enough to stop him from calling Hoya and giving him a piece of his mind in the form of swears, and then when he saw him again, with his fists.
He was still fuming when Woohyun came by with the biggest smile on his face until he saw Dongwoo’s face. His smile faltered a little bit, but he still hurried over to him. He wasn’t late was he? Woohyun glanced down at his watch before stuff his hands into his pockets.
“Hey. I’m not late, am I?” Dongwoo turned around and forced a smile to his face.
“No, I’m sorry I look so mad. I just have a lot of things on my mind,” he said, letting out a deep breath.
“Oh. I missed you at school today,” Woohyun said. Dongwoo sighed again. He already knew. Woohyun looked like a little lost puppy searching for his owner today at school, and it almost broke Dongwoo’s heart. If he had any feelings for Woohyun. Which he didn’t. He definitely didn’t.
“I wasn’t feeling good this morning, so I stayed home.” Woohyun’s mouth made an ‘o’ shape before he bit his lip.
“Well, if you’re not feeling good, then we don’t have to go out for dinner. We could just catch a movie- Well, it’ll be cold in the movie theatre... We could watch a movie at my place? I’ll even cook for you. I’m a pretty good cook,” Woohyun said with a smile. His smile shrank a little bit when Dongwoo gave him a look of uncertainty.
“I’m not trying to like, get in your pants or anything, and I’m not a rapist! I swear! You can ask Sunggyu! I’m a really nice guy. I promise.” Dongwoo knew he should’ve said no. He was going to say no. Those puppy dog pleading eyes had no effect on him and-
“Sure, I guess.”
Well, shit.
--
Dongwoo sat silently in the passenger’s seat of Woohyun’s car. Woohyun looked really nice that night. His hair was done up, showing his forehead, and he wore a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up, the top few buttons unbuttoned to show off his collar bones. If Dongwoo were really a girl, he’d have no problem falling for him.
But he wasn’t a girl, and one of his friends had a huge crush on Woohyun, which made it all the more forbidden. He couldn’t do that to Sunggyu.
“You’ve been really quiet. Still thinking about whatever it was that’s making you mad?”
Dongwoo sighed again. “Yeah, I guess you could say that. I have other things besides that.”
“Like what? Do you wanna talk about it?”
Dongwoo pursed his lips. Woohyun was the neutral party in this because he didn’t know what was going on. And if Dongwoo told him what was going on as a hypothetical situation, there was no way that Woohyun would think it applied to him, because well, it was just so crazy.
“Okay. Well, there’s something going on with Person A and Person B.” Woohyun laughed as soon as Dongwoo started talking and turned at a light.
“Hold on, hold on. I think I’m going to need all my brain power to understand this story. We’re almost to my apartment, so you think you can wait until we get there?”
--
The elevator ride up was awkward. The two of them stood next to each other, Dongwoo busying himself by checking his makeup and clothes in the elevator mirrors while Woohyun played with his watch.
Woohyun couldn’t be more relieved when the doors opened, and he let Dongwoo get off first before he got off and led him towards his apartment.
“It’s kind of messy since I wasn’t really expecting company, but it’ll be decent, I think. Actually, could you just wait out here for a second?” Woohyun asked nervously. Dongwoo blinked a few times as he watched Woohyun’s shaky hands try and shove the key into the keyhole.
“Uh, I’m sure it’s fine unless you have dead bodies littering your... Are you a murderer?” Dongwoo asked, taking a step back from Woohyun.
“No! I’m not! I just- I’m kind of messy. I probably should’ve thought about it before I invited you over, crap... Really, just give me a second.” Woohyun gave Dongwoo a sheepish smile before disappearing inside of his apartment.
“Really, I don’t think it’s that... bad.” Dongwoo pushed the door open and stared at the stacks of papers and clothes all over the place. Woohyun looked like caught committing a crime as he grabbed a few things and disappeared into his bedroom.
“I’m really sorry-” Woohyun stopped when Dongwoo suddenly started to laugh. He laughed until he fell against the door because he couldn’t stand up anymore, he laughed until he cried and had to wipe tears away from his face, praying to all the gods in the world that his makeup wouldn’t smear.
“Oh my god, I’m sorry, Woohyun. I don’t know why this is so funny,” Dongwoo said, clutching his stomach. He adjusted his legs to be a little bit more ladylike on the floor and sighed, leaning his head against the door.
“I... Well. It made you laugh, so I guess I don’t really care if you’re laughing at me.”
“It’s just- you look so nice and clean all the time. I never expected this.” Dongwoo gestured around the apartment, making a mental note that the only thing that looked like it was clean was the sink.
“Uh... surprise?”
Dongwoo started laughing again and missed the gigantic smile on Woohyun’s face.
--
“Here. One of my old shirts and a pair of shorts if you wanted to change into something more comfortable,” Woohyun said. He cleaned up his apartment faster than he ever had before in his life and finally came out of his bedroom.
“Oh, I don’t want to trouble you. Wouldn’t it look weird if you’re still dressed up while I’m in a t-shirt and shorts? And why do you have girl shorts?” Dongwoo asked, eyeing the short shorts.
“I had to crossdress for this one charity thing I did in high school and never threw them out. They’re comfy, I’ll tell you that much.” Dongwoo laughed again and took the clothes from Woohyun.
“Where’s the bathroom?”
“You can change in my room.” Woohyun pointed towards the open door and cracked his knuckles before making his way to the kitchen.
“I am going to make you something delicious for dinner. You can just relax on the couch and look pretty, okay?”
“Yes, sir,” Dongwoo said before closing the door to Woohyun’s bedroom and locking it. Dongwoo would kill to be in regular clothes right now, but Julia was going to be stuck wearing Woohyun’s clothes. Oh god, he was going to be wearing Woohyun’s clothes. Dongwoo looked at the clothes with interest and brought it up to smell them.
Dongwoo didn’t really know what he expected them to smell like. They smelled like Woohyun. He sighed. Damned if I do, damned if I don’t. I might as well enjoy this night. It’s been a while since... It’d been a while since Dongwoo dated. And though this didn’t really count because Woohyun thought he was on a date with Julia, this was the closest he was going to get.
--
Dongwoo checked and double checked to make sure all of his girl parts were in place and none of his boy parts were showing before leaving Woohyun’s bedroom. It was going to be a pain to remember where all of the tape was when he got home.
Woohyun heard his bedroom door open and glanced over his shoulder with a smile on his face. “Took you long enough. Did you take a nap in there or something?” Dongwoo settled on the couch and grinned.
“Sorry. I had to make sure I looked good before I came back out.” His hair was still in the flowery clip, except it was a little bit looser from the clothes coming off and on. He made sure his wig was secure though, lest something happen.
“Really? You always look good, though.” Dongwoo pursed his lips. He might as well play the part of a girl.
“Nam Woohyun. You’ve known me for... two days now? You’ve hardly ever seen me, so what makes you think I always look good?”
“You always look good when I see you. So my statement isn’t really wrong, is it?”
Dongwoo felt his heart skip a beat.
Uh oh.
--
Woohyun served dinner on plates in the living room. The two of them sat on the floor, plates on the coffee table, eating with take out food chopsticks. Woohyun was a true college student, except for the fact that he looked way too attractive to be one.
Really, Dongwoo. Stop that, he thought to himself.
“So, Woohyun. Sunggyu told me you’re a music major?”
“Yeah, in vocals and composing. I write songs, and I’m a pretty good singing, if I do say so myself.” Dongwoo nodded, taking another bite of his food. Woohyun was a really good cook, something that surprised Dongwoo.
“What about you?”
“I don’t know, I haven’t really decided yet. I was thinking dance but... I don’t know.” Woohyun’s eyes lit up.
“You dance? Can I see?”
“Well, I’m eating,” Dongwoo said, rolling his eyes at Woohyun. “And if I dance after I eat, I’m probably going to throw up.”
Woohyun laughed and nodded. “Okay, okay... But that sounds really interesting. You should go for it if you like it.” Words that Sunggyu needs to hear from Woohyun, that’s for sure, Dongwoo thought.
“Oh! What was that story you were going to tell me in the car? You’re not mad anymore, and if this is going to make you mad, then don’t tell me.” Dongwoo covered his mouth as he tried not to laugh and dabbed at his lips with a napkin.
“Right,” Dongwoo said with a sigh. Woohyun’s eyebrows furrowed slightly in concern. He liked Julia better when she was smiling and laughing.
“Okay, so there are a few people involved in this. Person A likes Person B, but Person A is afraid to confess because they’re afraid of being rejected because Person B doesn’t... well. He doesn’t swing that way apparently.”
Woohyun listened intently. “Wait, so... A and B are both guys?”
“Yeah. Anyway, enter Person C and Person D. Person D is an asshole and dared Person C to do something really stupid, but Person C agreed anyway. Now, Person A is mad at Person C and D, but C feel really bad about it and doesn’t know what to do because they don’t want to lose a friend over this.”
“What did D dare C to do?” Dongwoo opened and closed his mouth for a moment before frowning.
“I’d rather not say...”
“That’s fine, I was just curious. Is that it?”
“Well, there’s another person, E, that told C the real reason why D dared C that specific dare, and it turns out D is just using C to make A jealous, so A will confess to B because D is tired of hearing A whine.” Woohyun blinked a few times, trying to keep all of the letters straight in his head. He as glad that Julia didn’t tell him this story in the car.
“O...kay. I’m not sure if I’m following you correctly, but that sounds like a really complicated story.”
“Tell me about it.”
Woohyun laughed and sat back. “Sounds like A should man up and just confess to B. If he really likes him, then he should at least get that out there. The worst that could happen would be that B says he doesn’t feel the same way.”
“But A wants to stay friends with B. What if they stop being friends because of it?” Woohyun thought about his answer.
“Then B’s not a really good friend, is he?”
Woohyun was smart, Dongwoo had to give him that.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Dongwoo said quietly, thinking about the entire situation. He could come clean with Woohyun right now. Tell him about the dare. But he didn’t want to out Sunggyu like that, not if he wasn’t ready to confess to Woohyun yet.
“Did I help any at all?” Woohyun asked, tilting his head to the side. Dongwoo sighed and nodded. He could only ask so much before Woohyun started to make connections and suspect something.
“Yeah, you did. Thanks.” Dongwoo smiled at Woohyun, making him grin back before turning his eyes down shyly towards his empty dinner plate.
“Are you done eating?”
“Yeah, I’m done. Here, let me get the plates-”
“No, no, I’ll get it,” Woohyun said. He stood up quickly and picked up Dongwoo’s plate along with his and hurried off to the kitchen. “Do you want anything to drink?”
“Water, if you don’t mind,” Dongwoo said, getting up and climbing onto the couch. Woohyun fumbled around in the kitchen, and Dongwoo heard the sounds of plates crashing into the sink, and the fridge opening before Woohyun made his way back to the couch and handed Dongwoo a bottle of water.
“I’m surprised. You’re a really good cook,” Dongwoo said, opening up his water bottle and taking a sip. “Most I can do is ramen, and even sometimes it’s questionable.”
Woohyun laughed into his water bottle, choking on some water for a second before covering his mouth with his hand. “Oh! Hold on, I have something for you. I was going to give it to you this morning, but you didn’t come to school so yeah, hold on!”
Dongwoo watched as Woohyun scrambled off the couch, almost tripping and falling flat on his face on the floor. Dongwoo smiled fondly at him until he disappeared into his bedroom. Woohyun was trying really hard, and it made Dongwoo’s heart ache for him a little bit.
When Woohyun came back out, he had a small bag in his hands. Dongwoo recognized the logo on the bag as the one from the local phone store, and his eyes went wide.
No. He didn’t. He did not.
“I bought this for you since you don’t have one. I think Sunggyu is starting to get mad for being the middleman.” Dongwoo took the bag from Woohyun with shaking hands and pulled out a brand new phone. And it was a nice phone, too.
“It’s the same phone as mine.”
Oh god, matching phones...
“Woohyun, you didn’t have to. This must’ve been so expensive.” Woohyun just shrugged and down next to Dongwoo with a grin on his face.
“I had some money saved up. Money well spent, I’ll say.” Dongwoo opened up the box and pulled out the phone. Woohyun pulled out his own phone and held it up with a smile. His was black, and the one he got Dongwoo was white.
“I already put my contact info in there. Here let me...” Woohyun showed Dongwoo how to use the phone, which Julia thought was sweet, but Dongwoo was slightly irritated. Now, it would be impossible to avoid Woohyun, unless he just ignored his messages, which Dongwoo knew he couldn’t do because it would be too rude, especially after he went out and bought him a phone.
“Okay. I’ll try and remember everything,” Dongwoo said, playing with the phone some more. He’d give it back to Woohyun at the end of the week, but for now, he would enjoy playing with it. It was nicer than the phone he had now. Dongwoo pulled up his contacts list and saw one name in there and chuckled.
“Namstar?”
“Your one and only,” Woohyun said with a stupid smile on his face. Dongwoo made a face and gagged slightly. Woohyun was going to be the death of him by the end of the week. How did girls deal with stuff like this? Better yet, why did they like stuff like this?
“Okay, I’ll stop. What movie did you want to watch?” he asked, glancing up at the clock before getting off of the couch and opening up a drawer beneath his TV.
Dongwoo was going to die if they watched anything romantic, so he pursed his lips and thought. “Do you have any horror movies? Or zombie moves? Those are my favorite.” Woohyun turned around and furrowed his eyebrows.
“Horror and zombie movies? Uh... sure...” Dongwoo was trying to avoid anything romantic. With the advent of the phone, he was starting to feel ridiculously uncomfortable and wanted to get out of there as soon as he could.
“I have Twenty Eight Days Later?”
“Perfect!”
--
And by perfect, Dongwoo meant that it was perfect for Woohyun because Dongwoo had totally forgotten he’d never actually seen Twenty Eight Days Later, and as such, was completely unprepared for everything in the movie.
He ended up clinging to Woohyun’s arm and burying his face into his shoulder, even letting out a high pitched scream every now and then. And though Dongwoo’s nails hurt, and he screamed really loud, once or twice in an almost manly voice, Woohyun didn’t really mind because he was with ‘Julia’.
--
Myungsoo raised an eyebrow at Dongwoo when he walked into their apartment later that night in a completely different outfit than what he wore on his way out.
“Uh... Whose clothes are those? Are those Woohyun’s? You already slept with him?!” Sungyeol asked, eyes going wide. Dongwoo rolled his eyes and shoved at Sungyeol’s head.
“No, I didn’t sleep with him, you idiot. I haven’t even held hands or kissed him.”
--
Four days in, and only three days left to go if Dongwoo could survive that long. Woohyun left ‘Julia’ some really mushy messages on the phone, making Dongwoo want to cry whenever he read them.
“Oh god. These messages. I think I’m going to cry,” Myungsoo said as he looked over Dongwoo’s shoulder. Woohyun spent the entire day at school following Dongwoo around and making conversation after their date. Sunggyu looked like he ready to kill Woohyun, especially when he started to text ‘Julia’ when she was sitting right across from hin during lunch.
And now, Dongwoo was at home, Julia was gone, and Myungsoo was being nosy and looking over his shoulder at the texts from Woohyun.
“How do you even reply to these?”
“I channel my inner female. Here,” Dongwoo said, handing Myungsoo the phone. Myungsoo opened up the sent texts folder and started to scroll through the answers.
“Wow, Dongwoo, wow... If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you really were a girl.” Neither of them looked towards the door when it opened, a whole bunch of arguing boys walked through. Sungyeol sighed and leaned over Myungsoo and glanced at the phone.
“What’s this?”
“Julia’s phone,” Sunggyu said tightly. “Woohyun bought it for her.”
“Oh, wow. He must really like you,” Sungyeol said as his eyes scanned the texts. Myungsoo pointed a few out, and the two of them started to laugh.
“Shouldn’t you keep those private?” Sunggyu asked with exasperation. Dongwoo blinked a few times as he stared off into space and shrugged.
“I’m already going to hell for this, so why does it matter?”
“Spill, spill, spill! What happened on your date with Woohyun? Was it cute? Was it romantic? How did he give you the phone?” Sungjong jumped onto Dongwoo with wide, curious eyes.
“Well, I told him I wasn’t feeling well, so he said we didn’t have to go to dinner. Instead, he brought me back to his apartment and cooked for me, and we watched a movie. The end.”
“Wait, wait. You went back to his apartment?” Sunggyu’s eyes were always in danger of disappearing, but now they disappeared completely as he furrowed his eyebrows and scowled.
“Yeah, nothing happened. He’s a good cook, and he looked like he almost fell flat on his face getting this phone for me. Or, Julia, I should say. He sends a load of unbearably mushy crap. No wonder girls like him so much. I think I’m going to be sick,” Dongwoo said monotonously. Hoya eyed him suspiciously. It couldn’t be that Dongwoo was falling for Woohyun. That wasn’t part of his plan, and Sunggyu was proving to be more stubborn than usual.
“You should see him, Hoya. He’s like a puppy following Dongwoo around.”
“Guys, I can’t do this,” Dongwoo said, bringing a hand up to rub at his face. “My conscience is killing me. He really likes Julia, and I just- I can’t do this to him.”
“It’s already been four days. After today, you have three days, and you’re scot-free,” Hoya said, sitting back in a chair.
“Oh, yeah, Dongwoo, before I forget, I signed you up to do this volunteer charity car wash thing with me, Yeol, and Sungjong tomorrow. I made sure it would fit with your schedule,” Myungsoo said, throwing the white phone towards Dongwoo. It landed in his lap, and he didn’t even look down.
“How exciting.”
“I may have put down Julia’s name instead.” The whole room went quiet as Dongwoo opened his eyes to stare at Myungsoo.
“... You’re shitting me, right?”
“No, Sungjong’s even got your outfit all planned out.”
Dongwoo wanted to dig a ditch and throw himself into it.
“And I made sure to let Woohyun know. He says he’ll bring his car for you to wash.”
Dongwoo wanted to dig a ditch, set himself on fire, then throw himself into it.
“I said you’d be scantily clad, too.”
Forget that. Dongwoo wanted to dig a ditch, set Myungsoo on fire, then throw him into it. And judging by the look on Sunggyu’s face too, he wasn’t too far behind on Dongwoo’s thoughts.
--
Dongwoo was too tired to argue with Sungjong when the younger boy found him and dragged him into a closet at the school with a bag of clothes in his hand. If he was going to be washing cars in revealing clothing, then he would get to enjoy going to class as a man.
He noticed Woohyun looking around for Julia again, but this time, he pulled out his phone and texted her when he didn’t find her. Dongwoo felt the phone in his backpack vibrate and quickly reached in to pull it out, hiding it from Woohyun’s view as he walked.
From: Namstar
hey, i’m at your class. where are you?
Dongwoo sighed and tried to think of a good answer that wouldn’t sound like Julia was flaking out on classes.
To: Namstar
sorry! i went to an earlier class bc i have to get ready for the car wash later
From: Namstar
oh. where are you now?
To: Namstar
at home. i’ll ttyl!
Dongwoo shoved the phone into his pocket before he passed by Woohyun on the way into his class. Woohyun sighed and left, throwing his phone back and forth between his hands. He only had a few more days left to convince Julia to stay.
After class was over, Dongwoo dreaded having to change and head over to the wash. He didn’t even know what kind of outfit Sungjong had planned for him, but he was sure he wasn’t going to like it.
“Here,” Sungjong handed him a pair of cutoff jean shorts. Dongwoo held them out and then held them against his legs.
“Sungjong. These don’t cover anything.”
“That’s the point. And here you go.” Sungjong held out a white tank top with “HEY MAMI” written in large, capital, bold letters.
“No.”
“Don’t worry, this goes over it!” He handed Dongwoo a red plaid shirt. Dongwoo raised an eyebrow.
“Then what’s the point of wearing this?” he asked, holding up the tank top.
“Just put it on!”
--
Sungjong made sure the coast was clear before he and Dongwoo emerged from the closet.
“Man, I’m good,” Sungjong said, appraising his work. Dongwoo rolled his eyes. Sungjong left the top few buttons on the plaid shirt unbuttoned, showing off Dongwoo’s collar bones and the white tank top underneath.
“Just shut up, Sungjong.”
--
Sunggyu offered to take the boys to the location of the car wash, claiming that his car was in need of a good wash, too.
“Sunggyu, you know this wash isn’t free, right? It’s for donations.”
“I have some change somewhere in here.” Myungsoo rolled his eyes.
--
There was already a small group gathered at the location, and Dongwoo could already see Woohyun’s car (which was already near spotless) parked amongst the other cars. He was leaning on the side talking to some of his friends and laughing.
“Can both of you pick your jaws up? Sunggyu, you’re responsible for lives here. Oogle him later while Dongwoo is washing his car,” Sungyeol said, reaching over to poke Sunggyu in the back of the head.
“I wasn’t staring. Who else was staring?” Sunggyu asked as he turned into the parking lot.
“Three guesses who,” Sungjong said in a sing-song voice. Dongwoo wanted to reach over there and punch him in the arm.
--
Woohyun saw Sunggyu’s car pull up, and a wide grin appeared on his face. The doors opened, and an assortment of men got out, and there she was.
Julia got out of the car, and Woohyun swore the wind blew, and the angels began to sing. It was like everything else disappeared in his vision besides the lovely woman named Julia, and the sunlight moved to make a frame of light around her body.
She closed the car door and looked up, catching Woohyun’s eyes. His heart stopped. “Could there be anyone more beautiful on this planet?” he said out loud in a daze.
“What? Who are you talking about?” one of his friends asked, but Woohyun merely shoved people out of his way and walked towards her dumbly as she went to go sign in with Myungsoo and the others.
“Hi, Julia,” he said breathlessly. Dongwoo turned around after signing a fake signature for Julia and raised an eyebrow. Woohyun looked like he was about to start drooling any second now, and it made Dongwoo feel disgusting.
“Uh, hi, Woohyun. Can you... close your mouth? You look kind of...” Woohyun blinked a few times before snapping out of his daze and closing his mouth, wiping at it with the back of his hand in embarrassment.
“Oh god. I’m sorry. I don’t usually... You look really good.” Myungsoo and Sungyeol snorted from behind Dongwoo before saying they were going to go grab buckets, wash cloths, and sponges for their group.
Sunggyu sidled up next to Woohyun and gave Dongwoo a look of disbelief. “She always looks like that. What are you talking about?”
“I guess she always looks good then,” Woohyun said with a grin. Sunggyu and Dongwoo simultaneously rolled their eyes. Dongwoo really had to resist the urge to punch Woohyun every time he said something like that.
“Julia! Come help us!” Sungyeol called from a distance away. Dongwoo was grateful for the distraction and excused himself to go help with the supplies.
“She’s so gorgeous. Why is she only here for the week? Did she tell you if she was going to stay or not?” Woohyun asked, turning to Sunggyu. Sunggyu only shrugged.
“No, I haven’t really talked to her about it. I don’t think she wants to talk about it. She’s bad with making serious decisions and stuff.” Woohyun laughed as Dongwoo picked up the bucket with the supplies that the other boys were struggling with.
“Wow. She’s... strong.”
“Yeah. Almost like a guy,” Sunggyu said, deadpanning again.
