Another factor in your descision: the flash memory chips used in the iPod Touch are far more durable than the hard disk used in the iPod Classic.
I use a 20gb Rio Karma audio player as my MP3 player, and I'm currently on my second one. The first one took a nasty tumble one day while I was running for a bus, and I learned the hard way that while flash memory never stores as much stuff as a hard disk does, a hard disk won't store anything at all if it hits concrete hard enough. I was able to get another one via eBay with some help from one of my accomplices, and I treat it like it's made of glass.
At 16 gigs, the Touch has plenty of memory, and it'll be more rugged than the Classic.
