Ooooh yes. As I was writing the first few paragraphs I was thinking that there wasn't much point, as all the whining and jealousy would fit Edmund's character too. Except Edwina is cold. And while both of them are jealous of anyone who takes away Peter's attention, at that age, Edwina doesn't have the common schooling or the 'boys in this together' effect to bind her to Peter

See, I'm not, um, actually a fan of origin stories as a general rule, which is why I skipped even thinking about rewriting LWW for the Petaverse and went straight to PC. And the sex. Look, Peta has her priorities.
So -- where is Tumnus in all this? Will Edwina meet up with him? And I suppose there's going to be less, "Oh my god, it's all my fault," on Peter's part (look, I have my priorities). Huh. *considers* But he's going to be extra protective older brother, with three younger sisters.
Well, I'm playing with ED here. LWW is *the* place for his character development, so if I'm going to flip it I need to go back and start from the beginning.
I'm not sure if there will be sex. I don't think Edwina is quite as uptight as Edmund, but... not sure.
Tumnus and Lucy's story proceeds as per usual, I think. Edwina doesn't meet up with him. I think she might get spotted by Jadis as Jadis comes back the other way, and be taken back to Jadis' castle. Except that that involves changes to Jadis' character and motives...
Well, the *coldness* certainly is evident. She comes across to me as very bright, knows it, and resents the labelling it puts on her (though she probably likes being smart)...you know? The way that fat girls all have a nice personality, Edwin (scrawny, in them middle of 2 pretty sisters) is "smart

She HATES Lucy. Edmund doesn't (I have the LWW backstory for Edmund worked out already). With Edmund, he picks on Lucy because he's bullied at school, and Lucy's the only person he knows weaker than he is, in bullying terms. Edwina just plain hates her. She's jealous and she can't relate to Lucy- they can't play the same games :(. Edwina has complex imaginary worlds, and Lucy wants to re-enact stock fairytales. That sort of thing.
Edwina's not a lesbian. She might go there- I think she'd want to fuck Peta, if she met her, but it'd be a power thing more than a basic attraction. I'm not really sure about Edwina's sexual character, though, all I know is it's different to Edmund's. She'll think Caspian is an oaf.
Mm, yes. I was going to do a rehash of the sort of Polly/Jadis thing I wrote when I first opened this LJ, but Edwina's much less insecure than Polly. Or she controls her insecurities better. She knows no outsider will ever give her validation, so she wraps herself up in herself and does without
( ... )
Perhaps I was unclear-I don't mean that *I* think she would be a lesbian, but that her relatives, schoolmates, and others might think so. Because I don't see her as motivated by warmth of emotion, but, as you say, more about power issues, control, validation, etc. Any woman who's not all about getting married and having kids is suspect, even now; and how much more so then
( ... )
Hum, well, I'm quite sure she's more sexual than Edmund. She's capable of flirting, for example. And... Edwina-in-the-Golden-Age isn't quite the same as this Edwina. Something DOES happen in the end of LWW to change her a bit.
Jadis, I'm not sure. Right now, she's dismissed Jadis as a possible refuge. If she's taken captive, she'll resent Jadis. But if Jadis gives her something to do- perhaps Jadis puts her in charge of supply for the army, she'd be good at that- then I think that will change. What Edwina wants most of all is to have her abilities recognised and rewarded.
Oh, now THAT is a good idea. Edmund's betrayal is of Aslan... but if Edwina betrays Jadis then Aslan really has no cause to die for her... ohh, that's interesting

Unrelated to Edwina, but... I did send you an email back about your Gawain fic. You may never want me to beta again, I dunno...
Related to Edwina: Wow, I kind of can't think of anything to say, except that I had the vague idea that perhaps in this world, it's Lucy Aslan dies for, not Edwina. I don't have any idea what I meant by that.
HUH. I don't know what you mean by that either, and I don't know how I could make it work, but it would be interesting.
Perhaps an ambiguous sort of situation where Lucy ASKS Aslan to resolve the crisis, resulting in Aslan volunteering himself for execution. At that stage I think Peter may already have volunteered to be killed in Edwina's place, so it really won't be clear who's dying for whom... but I could thread through this implication that Aslan wouldn't have done it without Lucy asking him.
It's definitely intriguing. And I like the way it's written in the style of LWW.
If I was casting movie!verse Edwina I'd go with Felicity Jones but I couldn't pick the blonde version considering how many blonde actresses are available to choose from.
It never seemed clear. I think people tend to assume it, because Lucy is blonde and (I think) Peter is, but I don't recall any specific mention of Edmund having blond hair.Maybe it's the original illustrations, they always show him as blond but how reliable are those illustrations anyway?
So many of us grew up on BBC Edmund as much as the books.
