Ginny tastes like pumpkin juice and sugarquills the first time they kiss.
It’s too sweet, and Hermione has always been warned against indulging in sweets. She knows she should listen to the advice, but it’s difficult to think clearly when Ginny is licking into her mouth. It’s not her first kiss, and it won’t be her last, but it’s memorable in its own way. She sucks the sugar off of Ginny’s tongue, craving more, and they spend hours kissing beside the lake in the fading afternoon sunlight.
Ginny tastes of tears and misery when they kiss during the battle at Hogwarts.
It’s too bitter, and Hermione feels as if someone has reached inside to squeeze her heart because this isn’t right. This isn’t Ginny. There is sadness all around, and it’s been months without any contact, and she foolishly kissed Ron earlier, and Ginny somehow knows because the kiss is desperate and possessive. Ginny bites at her lip, wanting to leave a mark, and the tears are salty against Hermione’s tongue. Regardless of everything happening around them, this is what she needs, what she wants, and she knows Ginny feels the same way because time seems to stop when their tongues touch and the bitter taste of tears is replaced by the sweet taste of her Ginny.

It’s too sweet and too bitter, and Hermione can’t wait to spend her life with this taste on her lips, on her tongue, every night. Ginny laughs when she tells her, tries to explain her craving, and she just says it’s obvious that Hermione’s addicted to ginger.
