And as far as london goes... remind me later to look up where I stayed the last time I was overseas. We stayed somewhere really inexpensive, in a good area and a nice hotel. We were in Earl's Court... about a block away from the Tube Station.
London huh? You could try somewhere like Premier Travel Inn, or Holiday Inn, depends how long you're coming for and how central to London you want to be? They'll be cheaper than a "hotel" and the ones I've stayed in have always been basic but decent.
I'm not a Londoner but willing to help if you need any advice :D
Thanks! We'd originally hoped to just stay in London a couple of days and then travel to other places but we've only got a few days to be there and family members want to see X, Y, and Z, so it looks like it'll be London with maybe taking a tour south or something. Premier Travel Inn? I've not heard of that one so I'll look it up. Thanks!
Well, I obviously do not live in the UK, but if you're looking for cheap lodging, stay away from the Borough of Kensington and Chelsea - that's where places like Notting Hill are. You need to go to that part of London because it has things like the Victoria and Albert Museum and Harrods, but it's very expensive.
What I can recommend for a lower budget is the place I stayed the first time I was in London - the Royal National Hotel. Now, I warn you, it is a budget hotel, not particularly nice, but it's in central London, basically at Russell Square, pretty close to the British Museum and Oxford Street. You might want to look into it.
Thanks! I've not come across this one in my searches. Is it a safe area? I don't mind budget. We have 6 people and the airfare alone is a lot, so cheap but safe lodging is fine. Is it convenient for getting around? (one person going is 76)
Yeah, it's a safe area. I was with my mother and neither of us felt unsafe at any time. And there are a lot of buses and a close tube station. For further looking, the farther you get from London proper (which is only one square mile in the middle of all the boroughs and whatnot), the cheaper hotels will be.
