She might not fear death, but she does fear losing her mind, so she does her best to resist becoming like Moody or, worse, like those who now reside in St. Mungos.

Oh yeah, I can so *very* easily see Hermione being more afraid of ending up like the Longbottoms than the Potters. And heck, I don't blame her; I feel the same way.
