Oh, Aspen, thank you so much. I was so excited I had to read this before bed last night, but it was so late that coherence was something I could only dream about. So here I am, rereading this so I can gush properly, and you should know I've gotten chills both times I've read this. I have a real soft spot for Eights, and you've crafted a story about them that was fascinating to me even before I figured out who the narrator is but then added an unexpected and heartbreakingly beautiful layer on top of that.
You're such a good writer, and I think the POV works so well here. I love how she sees Boomer, I love how she sees Athena, I love how you've shown her perspective shaped by their experiences, and it's such a treat to be inside her head for her thoughts on Gaeta, knowing how that story goes.
(I was reading a discussion just last night where it was theorized that each Cylon model was kind of created as a response to the previous model and that as you went down (up?) the line from One to Eight each model had more and more
( ... )
Whee, I'm so horrendously late in responding, but oh, I am SO glad you liked this! This was something of a writing experiment for me in terms of structure and form, and I'm glad it paid off and that you enjoyed the story. Thank you for giving me such a fabulous prompt!
