This will be a very fragmented reply to your post here and I may come back later with more!

You can do the exchange for cash nowadays at the Philly airport - they have kiosks for that. I would take some cash instead of doing the entire trip with a debit card. I dont know about using a debit card in the UK because I did not on my most recent trip about 5 yrs. ago. I used cash and a credit card (that trip was for business, though). Also, some advice on tipping. It's considered an insult to tip more than 10% so don't go crazy. :)

Oh, just adding more here: pubs tend to close around 10:30 or 11:00PM. If you are staying in London things tend to stay open longer. The tube is the best way to get around in London - IMO. Everything is marked so well and you can get an all day pass for cheap.

It does rain quite a bit, but more like a misty rain rather than downpour (last time I was there was in early November).

Also, if you don't have a international plan your phone won't work - you probably already knew this, but it is an easy thing to ( ... )

The last time I travelled abroad was in 1999 in Japan, so anything I might say would be totally useless, but I see missescookie gave you all the right tips.
And your workplace didn't give you problems, they understood you! I'm so glad and so excited for you! It's going to be a magical experience.
