I finished the anime a couple of weeks ago and these two drabblets were one of the first fics (and remain as one of the loveliest) I've read in the fandom. They've been sitting in my memories for quite a while (and will continue to do so forevermore), so it's about time I commented!
This is gorgeous and I really do love every word of it. One my favourite things about this was the Argentinian poppy, Poppo's snapshot of it, his whistling on, his eventual travels to Spain and his eventual replacing of the flowers in the milk bottle. I adore Poppo and his cheerful, adventurous spirit, and the images painted here were just so him, and the rest of these two drabbles so them as a group. Menma's appearance at the very end was a beautiful, poignant touch, also.
One could easily imagine that this is indeed what might occur three years after the end of the anime; it retains the nostalgic and picturesque quality of the show wonderfully.
Thank you so very much for this lovely comment. The anime was absolutely amazing, but the ending left me wanting some sort of closure for the five of them left behind. I felt like I knew them, understood them and even though it's hard to completely imagine the kind of psychological trauma they've been through, it's not hard to see that they need to move on to be happy. I really wanted Poppo to travel again, I really wanted Anaru to realise that she didn't need to hide behind cosmetics, I wanted the whole Yukiatsu and Tsuruko thing settled, I wanted Jintan to pick up the pieces and I wanted Menma to still be around.
