So, I was looking up some pictures of people (Christopher Gorham and Rob Thomas) - I think I was looking up Rob Thomas at the time, when I got a notice from my firewall: "Application iinstall42434.exe is attempting to access the internet, (always) [Allow] [Deny]?" ---OOOOhhhh, I was not happy. I first selected "Always" + "Deny" then I went into my ( Read more... )

Microsoft anti-spyware is known to ignore, if not assist, several spyware apps. After all, they ARE in bed with one of the makers of spyware software. We highly recommend webroot spysweeper, if you must use an insecure system.

Also, best way to update java? uninstall it and install a new version.

Strange - I've always heard good things about MS-AntiSpyware. I'll have to check out spysweeper though. MS did find the IST "iinstaller" but it wasn't the active-scanner that found it - it was a deep system scan.

Damn java - I've always thought it was annoying, and now it's letting stuff like this into my system. I'm not happy.

there is no perfect spyware solution. i always recommend the use of two. Search and Destroy, and Spy Sweeper. Adaware is no longer worth the effort, and MS-AntiSpyware is known broken.

Then again, as I don't have spyware issues, it doesn't really affect me.

I'm not so sure that this was just a spyware issue anymore - it looks like it started off as a virus that got onto the system and then downloaded some spyware - which never installed. That may explain how it got past a lot of the security.

At least it didn't affect anything - it seems to have been more of a panic for me than for my system.
