I've been driving a little Mercury Tracer ('97) that my parents purchased for me in 2002 since I had made it into college and was getting something just below a 4.0 for my entire first year! Hmmm, that is a good point. I got stuck with about $2,000 worth of car repair bills in the past 12 months for the Tracer... I've never really had to deal with a Toyota/VW for repairs. Consumer Reports lists them both as average for repair frequency and cost, however the Ford Fusion is listed well for low cost for repairs that don't seem to occur all that frequently.

Yeah, I've heard a few people saying the same thing about getting an after-marker audio system (or Nav system, etc.), that is a consideration for me. I'm not so great with that though, I planned on getting Cruse Control added to the Tracer back in '02, but I never did.
