Christmas 2008 into the New Years of 2009 I sent a letter to my best friend since Junior High, over 20 years, a letter telling her I loved her, knew I was a wreck of a friend at times, and told her if she wanted stop being friends I would accept it.  If not, we needed to have a good long talk because we were obviously drifting apart.

She didnt call

Sorry for your loss, Kitten. I could say that you at least had the courage to write and mail the letter, but courage always seems to be a cold comfort. You've done enough on your own by now that courage has lost its luster, only being noted when you feel it is absent.

As for your friend, all I can say is that some folks can't let go of the past. Personally, I wouldn't want to let you go.

Aw, that blows. You shouldn't blame yourself (easier said than done, I know). *hug* (I guess I'm not one to talk, since I blamed myself for a friendship that ended about six months ago. I hadn't known the person nearly as long, but it still hurt.)
