I have no idea what the kiddies read in school now but I just read a quote from Christina Hoff Sommers, the author of the totally ludicrous book The War Against Boys that states, "reading lists are dominated by female-oriented literature that turns boys off to reading, which seems 'girlish ( Read more... )

It's funny that sexism can even creep into a school's reading list. Then when they do use women authors it is either Gertude Stein's very difficult, nigh impossible to read Tender Buttons or dry Jane Austen and it turns boys off on women authors. Now where is the Lorrie Moore or Jeanette Winterson, oh wait she is a lesbian, you can hear the concerned parents calling already.

High schools also need to get in the program (if they are ever funded) and start offering history of film and rock'n'roll classes. That is what students want these days. All about the entertainment.

Yeah i was going to say, those were required reads and i don't care who wrote it i hated most of it. Boo Radley was not something that facinated me, he was a pastey white guy that wasted 3 weeks of my life. Fuck that guy!

I read an article about boys who play sports and video games, which teach competition and problem solving, while girls are well? not.

Saddly at my work we had a position open where if a qualified woman applied she would get the job. Out of 240 applicants 0 women applied.

I don't read, and girls don't seem to actively pariticipate in science. Do you think it's by design? or do you think you hate math and i'm just too ignorant to really care about interesting ideas and concepts?

You say:

I have no idea what the kiddies read in school now but I just read a quote from Christina Hoff Sommers, the author of the totally ludicrous book The War Against Boys that states, "reading lists are dominated by female-oriented literature that turns boys off to reading, which seems 'girlish'."

Then you say:

Work harder boys, and quit the fucking whining.

I don't understand:
Christina hoff said that? and then you're blaming boys for whining? The only thing i don't see is the boys whining. Just some hot girl on girl action. Futhermore, telling boys to work harder--i don't get it. Take a look around, it's a mans world. Nowhere in girl world would there ever be a prominent hot dog eating contest.

I should stop saying things that piss you off, but sometimes i just like poking your buttons in good fun. cheers.

Hot dog eating may be primarily a male sport, but the best eater in America is a woman.

I have to disagree, if you read the rest of the article it states:

"However, in 2005, Sonya was tested by other American eaters, most notably by Joey Chestnut, who beat her in Waffle House waffles and in Krystal hamburgers. Many Americans remain hopeful that Sonya will fulfil the prophesy and beat Kobayashi -- but can she do it? Is she the one?"

Joey Chestnut ate 52 hot dogs, 1 3/4th less than Kobayashi.

Good find tho!

I think hot dogs are not a good food for her.

I think to say there is a "war against boys" is being a little dramatic. Have you ever read School Girls by Peggy Ornstein?
