Just wanted to share a quote I read in "P.G. Wodehouse: In His Own Words," by Barry Day and Tony Ring.

"I sometimes wish I wrote that powerful stuff the reviewers like so much, all about incest and homosexualism." (Letter to Denis Mackail, 28 February 1960)

quotes, wodehouse

My mind, it is blown! I knew I should have picked up that book last time I was in the shop!

Homosexualism: is that like communism?

Yes, but the sense of brotherhood is stronger. :D

Ah, hence the conflation with incest! ;-)

By Jove! I think we've inadvertently discovered Wodehouse's true agenda!

But he did, didn't he? *g* I mean, come on, the subtext in the Jeeves books is just barely sub.

I'll have to look up this book - it sounds like one to own. :3 The quote makes me wonder what Plum would have thought of the fan community if he were alive today. I like to think he'd be amused by us, and perhaps say that maybe we were onto something with all our talk of subtext, even if it was just to keep us happy.

There was actually an article about Japanese slash fans in an issue of Wooster Sauce a while ago. I almost feel like writing to them with a little article about Indeed, Sir! Hmm, I've only just thought that maybe a few articles from Wooster Sauce would be appreciated here... Do you think I should scan them in?

Oh, yes please! I've never heard of Wooster Sauce before, but I'm all eyes! Where does one go to subscribe? (I tried Googleing it, and came up with loads of stuff, including recipes, but no mention of how to get hold of the fan zine/newsletter/whatsit)

Recipes? *facepalm* Internet, you pain me. Worcester sauce, peoples. If people could spell, this confusion would not have arisen.

Wow, Wooster Sauce sounds so much cooler than the Baker Street Journal, who in their 40 years of publication have not had one article that has addressed homosexuality as it relates to Sherlock Holmes canon, fanon, or even fandom.

(But I cannot complain. Because I am only stooping by this comm on a short break from my 5-day high after my HP OTP was totally canonized!!!!)
