Retitling of books

Feb 19, 2006 17:33

I just finished reading Much Obliged, Jeeves, incidentally a very good book with occasional cameos from Augustus the Cat and the immortal line "There is never a time when ties do not matter, sir."

My point is that when I looked it up on the web, I found that in America this book is called "Jeeves and the Tie that Binds."

Now, myself, I can find no reason for retitling this book. The phrase 'Much obliged, Jeeves' occurs at least twice in the book, and is the second last line in the entire thing, while ties are only mentioned once, in passing, and are certainly not a plot point. Nobody mentions 'Ties that Bind' at all, as far as I can see.

Does anyone know why the name was changed?

(NOTE: I know there is a TV episode made of this book with the same name, but I haven't seen it.)
