Now, some of these I picked up for cheap, so I don't feel too bad about not having gotten to them yet, but I'd still like to play them. And this doesn't include a ton of games that I have picked up, but probably won't ever play anyway, sadly ( Read more... )

Will Baldur's Gate 1 or Planescape even work on a modern computer?

They should. Good Old Games (www.gog.com) just released them. I believe they run through DOSBox, but I'm not entirely sure, not having picked them up myself. Yet.

But since they were just released, I'm assuming they figured out how to make them run on current machines.

Yeah, I think that's really my problem. I haven't come to accept that yet. It's like, I finally have the money to pick up all the games I want to play, but I no longer have the time to play them all.

I'm (slowly) getting better about limiting my purchases and whatnot, but there's still a lot of instant gratification that I go with. Thankfully most of those games in the PC section I got off steam during their last sale for cheap. (I've been VERY good about limiting my PC purchases to Steam to help ward off random purchases. Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment might be the exception to that rule, but I haven't given in on those yet.)

Well, their last sale wasn't kind to me, but at least it only cost me ~$10 or so. But yeah, Steam itself is a black hole of cash, but it's still only one site. If I limit myself to just Steam, I don't have to worry about what Direct2Drive or any other site is putting on sale.

But yeah, Steam won't end up saving me money in the long run. It'll just cost me less with their massive sales.

I picked up Twilight Princess for the first time last year and loved it. It gave me warm fuzzies during the nostalgic bits. You need to get on that, pronto.

I've been thinking about buying a PS2 just to play a bunch of games that I never touched. I'm afraid, if I do that, I won't get around to playing all of those games.

I would recommend you start on the games that require the least amount playtime to complete. Then move on to the RPGs that will take longer.

That's a good suggestion, and puts things in a light I hadn't quite thought of before. I'd been wondering how to attack that stack, and I think that might be the answer.

The problem, of course, being trying to estimate how long each game will take. Hrm.

I feel your pain. As a collector and a gamer, I've got a very substantial backlog of games I want to play; thankfully most of them are arcade style affairs that don't require substantial time sinking. I've also been pretty good at limiting my purchases; I can have my fun with some titles just by hanging with my friends as they play through them.

That said, someday I will play Jade Empire.
