The reason I'm asking is because the story was never meant to be just them, it was meant to encompass the entire team, how Daniel/Vala affected everyone, as well as influenced, and brought together people.
Mainly because the next chapter in order to get the Christmas chapter out by Christmas, I'm combining a few chapters, which leads to a major plot development involving Daniel/Vala as well as SG-1 as a whole.
I have to say, I'm with Whisper on this. Adding in another 'ship runs the risk of reducing your potential audience. My chief complaint about 'ship (or slash) is when people write 'ship for the sake of 'ship. If a story's plot doesn't HAVE to be 'ship, then why write it that way?
If you can show the way the team comes together--perhaps hinting at deeper emotions instead of holding up a huge sign that says "SHIP AHOY!"--then just keep the focus on D & V, and leave the rest to the reader's imagination.
I'm not saying that this other ship is going to be competing with the two; and in order for one thing to occur in Daniel and Vala's relationship this other thing(which I wont say at this moment in time) has to happen. Its not goin to be the focus, but somewhere in the background. Its kind of hard to explain.
I didn't say it would be competing, I just said it might reduce your audience. Say, for example, you have a die-hard Sam/Jack 'shipper who has been reading along just fine, then all of a sudden, the 'ship hits the fan. Said die-hard fan will probably stop reading at that point. (Of course, I personally could care less what an SJ shipper thinks, but that's just 'cause I'm mean.)
But it is your story, so do what you feel ya gotta do.
I understand, I just, can not see the lives of SG-1 not developing in the background. Which is why I'm asking, because I myself already know what is going to happen, but the input would be nice.
I agree, I don't think you need to add another ship just to encompass more of the team. Just because one couple (D/V) hook up, doesn't mean that starts a sudden trend and the rest of the team is getting together. I like the Daniel/Vala empasis on the plot. I also like the team dynamic of them acting as a family. Just write more of the team acting and sticking together and you'll be fine. Not everything needs to be ship.
Oh I totally agree with you. But like I'm saying, certain things-in my plot at least- need to happen to drive things.
It doesn't start a trend, believe me. I have things that are going to completely change expectations of my readers, hopefully in a good way. Daniel/Vala will always be the focus, but these quite background lives of the team have to happen.
I have to say I agree with the others, I don't think you need to add another 'ship. I'm a total Sam/Jack shipper so that's my no.1 choice. Of the choices given, Sam/Rodney or maybe Cameron/OC.
I understand where everyone is coming from not wanting another 'ship to take over the plot, but they wont, because in my mind, the rest of the team needs to develop their own lives in progress. I don't plan them to take over by all means, I just think that their own lives need to progress and not revolve around Daniel and Vala.
I totally get what you're saying about the team having their own life and not being just about Daniel/Vala. I guess what I was saying is that I don't think you *have* to be in relationship to have a life. That said, it's your story so do what works for you :-) I'm just not a big Sam/Cam or Sam/Teal'c fan, ah well. I know i'll still have the Daniel/Vala action - woo!
I'm not a fan of those two either...I already KNOW what's going to happen with who and when, but the opinion of readers is something I like, even if they dont come true.
I agree with the don't *have* to be in a relationship, but after this next chapter, when the world gets shook and broken into a million pieces, there's going to be little things, as Sam, in particular, needs to find.
That and I randomly started writing the last chapter at work, and it just..Yeah. I'm being vague for a non-spoilery reason :D
I voted other I personally like Sam with Jack but I am minor shipper when it comes to them if you want it to be Cam and someone I suggest Cam and Carolyn Lam that's my favorite for Cam. Cam and Elizabeth is intriging thought too
