That sounds terrible. Immediately my brain came up with a number of suggestions to help combat your troubles. However, they're all things I'm sure you've considered or tried already. What do you do to calm yourself back down at night?
If I'm up and about (either at night or any other time) the usual activity on a hyperanxious brain is knitting. That's my therapy of choice when I'm not petting the cats (unfortunately, they're mutually exclusive - two of my felines are quite young and rambunctious. In addition, the yarn manages to be irresistible at most times to even my adult cat, who while very affectionate is not usually very playful).
But, the presence of little warm bodies in bed with me (particularly the older one, who invariably spends the whole night on my pillow, which is sometimes obnoxious) tends to remind me that things are ok. If I rouse them and start them purring, it's difficult to stay upset.
I don't know your stance on medicine, but when sleep problems have me at my wits' end, I will take Tylenol PM for one night. That knocks me out and I can get a full night, though I still feel a little zombified the next day, it's better than going nuts.
