That awkward moment when you're being such a misogynistic gamer that Jim Sterling calls you on it.

Edit: The post has gone down now, but if it comes back then I'll put up a trigger warning for discussion about rape/dickwolves in the comments.
There is also this article from Susan Arendt on the topic, which is kinda problematic in and of itself.

trigger warning, harassment, gaming culture, video games, sexism

Back up with an update:

[Update: Miranda felt she was misrepresented due to her quotes not being clearly attributed to her Twitter account. This has been amended. To be clear, Miranda provided Destructoid with no quotes and everything she is quoted as saying was said on her Twitter profile.]

Warning for rape triggers in the comments, there's a bunch of back-and-forth bringing up the PA/Dickwolves debacle.

edit: The post isn't showing up for me anymore either.

Meanwhile, other members of the community (especially at NeoGAF) have criticized Aris' behavior, and it's heartening to see that Super Yan received a fair bit of support from the fighting game community. While some members of the FGC believe that their hobby is about singling out women for abuse and making them feel uncomfortable, it would appear that an encouraging amount of them actually stand against that kind of shit. Hopefully it goes some way toward disproving the myth that the FGC is full of entitled manbabies ... a myth that folk like Aris and Watson have unfortunately propagated in several situations ( ... )

Thanks for doing this!

It's also worth noting that when Jim refers to not knowing how problematic or stupid they were, it links to a wikipedia entry on the term feminazi.

I don't actually know who he is, but when reading his words induces thoughts like, "I guess they don't get to 'don't harass people in the first place' until *advanced* etiquette," I can guess what the italics are about. Also, "don't read the comments" is in full force on this article >.

Jim Sterling is the star of 'Jimquisition' on Escapist and also has something to do with Destructoid.
Also he's really and I mean REALLY not a pleasant person. Trigger warnings for basically everything in those links.

Wow, he's not even a funny jerk, he's just a jerk. I needed to watch some Zero Punctuation to recalibrate my funny-jerk-o-meter after that.

And that second article can be summed up as, "I'm not going to blame the victim BUT let me tell you why it's totally her fault and she failed all of womandom (of which I am The Queen Wanker! All must wank before me![1])."

[1] Maybe I overcalibrated my funny-jerk-o-meter.

ETA: I meant the Susan A. article in your post, not the REALLY link in your comment.

Jim Sterling's comment down the page a little:

I am on PA's side with dickwolves because it did not include the personal element. It was a widely broadcast joke, that wasn't even about rape, in a site that had courted offense many times before.

Link to the actual Dickwolves comic in question

How in the hell does he think that's not about rape?

At least now we know where he draws the line: Rape jokes are totally fine as long as they're not directed at someone individually, and just at a faceless mob! It's perfectly fine to sexually harass an entire gender, just not singly.

This guy is such a douche-and I mean that in the sense that he is something harmful to women, too.
