The Princess and the Frog turned out to be wonderfully addictive; the more I think about it, the more I'd like to get a copy, even if my initial review of it seemed lukewarm ( Read more... )

Heh, one of the things that actually disappointed me about the sequel (amidst other things) was the lack of hyenas. I remember being bothered by that issue, myself, when I watched the film years later.

I actually did see the sequel as part of a rental binge at a local mom-and-pop video store.

I actually didn't think it was that bad. Dancing around the issue of Kovu's parentage was pretty annoying, even though it *was* a kid's movie, and of course, it's very difficult to write a work where the parents are pre-established characters, without viewers ending up with the feeling that these characters have become ciphers when their children take centre stage.

The idea of some of the lionesses *supporting* Scar, retcon though it was, showed a little more complexity than we're used to from Disney, though the movie also went out of its way to spoil THAT by making all such lionesses twisted and ugly.

It was also interesting to see a mother as a villain for a change.
