The bit about the desert makes me think you may be looking for Metaphors As Mixed As You Can Make Them by halflinen. But I don't think projection!Arthur was included at all...? In this fic, Eames attempts (and fails) to incept Arthur into loving him. Later, they fall in love for real, but then Arthur finds out about the attempted inception and is furious with Eames. The part about the exploding house and the desert happens when they're dreaming for a job and Eames protects Arthur and Ariadne from a grenade, which kills him and sends him to limbo.
